I have been using Obsidian for almost 2 years and this has to be one of the best explanations of what it can do, and I have watched a lot of videos trying to master some of the features. Brilliant.

I have used Obsidian for three months and i use tags to group things together, I also use folders to group objects which belong, like locations, people, etc. I also use graph function a lot because it is easy to see how objects relate to each other and how strong the connection is. Because of this it is very useful as a INT tool where you can see which people or places are important. The dots size increase for each node connected to the object. I have never used the canvas because i didn't understand how to use it, but you always learn new things and that was useful.

I've been using Obsidian for over a year (genuinely upgrading my professional work while doing so), and this is by far the best practical look at Obsidian. I'd love to see a short highlights video about your recommendations for Wiki-style note-taking, and some creative options for different types of users' specific needs.

one thing to note is that obsidian is closed source, so when you talk at 15:00 being stuck with it, that also means you'll be stuck if they start making the app less good by limiting free options. You are correct that markdown files can be used by other programs though, so you wouldn't necessarily lose everything if you wanted to switch. I want to like obsidian and the canvas feature looks really nice, but i have also been looking for open source alternatives. Logseq has been pretty appealing on that front but not a 1:1 replacement in all areas. Lose some features, gain others.

I’ll give Logseq a look!

I am starting to use Obsidian and comparing it with other tools I did not see it as very powerful, however with your explanation I see that I had fallen short and now I will apply its benefits in my notes. Thank you very much for having created this video with applicable content.

Whilst I haven’t used Obsidian, I’ll definitely check it out. For me I think when it comes to choosing a tool, the place I land is that it depends. Sometimes I’m in spreadsheet, text document or stats package other times it’s a scribble on a page that gets my thoughts together on how I want to take the client on a exploration that answers their questions. At the end of the day if your output brings value then how you got there doesn’t matter, but great tools make the journey smoother. I really appreciate your approach Gary and genuine character. Thanks for making content on KZbin, I have certainly learnt a lot. 😊

Hi Gary. Thanks for the demonstration of Obsidian. Obsidian might be what I need, but I want to ask you: Is there a software that will take the notes from multiple PDF documents to create notes in on a canvas in which the notes can be moved around, grouped, and linked together?
