Not to be overcritical, but I wonder how valid his autobiography is for these reasons: He was clearly not a skinny dude, yet one of his virtues was to not eat too much. He quoted chastity & justice yet fathered children with his slaves. He also wrote an advice to younger men to sleep with older women since they were more easily agreeable and cleaner than prostitutes. Finally, he attended the Hellfire Club whose central mission was for politicians to explore depravity with prostitutes and the like. I was going to read this book, but I believe it is likely the self-praise of a typical blowhard who believes himself to be great.

The fact that you did not read the autobiography shows. A major point of the text was to be a letter to Franklin’s son, informing him of his father’s mistakes so that he may learn from them. You seem to be biased due to him being a white cis male, and that’s a shallow remark to make. Though he was a man, he was an advocate for women’s rights and equality of the sexes. He also wrote prose about injustice and hypocrisy within the church, knowing full well he could be arrested and fined for blasphemy. Before reaching such a hasty generalization, you must at least do your due diligence and read the text you aim to criticize.
