I had the Power's John lane 12 recently and it was really good. The mouth feel was good and stronger than the 46 abv on the bottle. I got it for about £50 in the UK.

This is my first "older" Irish. I get butterscotch , vanilla, and spices(more of a cinnamon than nuttmeg), some sweet pepper on the side. compared to the 12 this is richer and smoother, I am glad I bought one. I put it up against the Jameson single pot still, although it's good, it can't live up to the Redbreast, both are smooth and rounded. They are to different whiskey's though

Rich in ON - an Irishman abroad. Great to see you review a wee Irish Pot Still. I'm with you. I love the Redbreast range. The 15 is a lovely lovely dram. I got a bottle earlier this year, and I have NOT regretted it. I'd gently disagree about the 12 year old. I think it's still worth a try. It's fruits are deeper and darker than the 15. Different, but lovely. I have a 12 Cask Strength waiting for my when I go home this summer. ;). Also, a small correction. Whilst Midleton would be flattered by the suggestion, Tully D.E.W is made in Tullamore, not Cork. 'G' keep up the great work, big man. Always enjoy your vids. :)

Hi Geoff. “Skipping the 12” is sound advice. In my market red breast is hard to come by, and expensive. In fact the 12 was the only expression available at the time.It cost more than most scotch 15 yo and more than some 18’s. Conclusion, I wasted the AU$125 I paid. Maybe the message is getting through, as recently the 15yo has just been reduced in price by 25%.

Absolutely true! Nowadays I tend to go more with "low risk buys" if there is one. This means no NAS whisky, so preferrable age stated, at least 10 years old, no lower than 43% (but preferrably 46%), preferrably non-chill filtered. For now it seems that it is working.

My experience with Irish whiskey is very limited. Various widely available and affordable Jameson, Bushmills and Tullamore DEW expressions. And that's it. Needless to say I have no intentions to keep this status quo for too long :) I've been having Redbreast 15 at the very top of my "to buy" list for quite some time now. Goes for ~45 euros in Bulgaria which is very, very attractive price for 15 yo, 46% Irish whiskey, even by local market's standards. Got two bottles of 12 CS (~40 euros) in the stash, one old and one new, waiting their turn to be tasted though. The other Irish I'm aiming at is Powers 12 John's Lane (~23 euros). Cheers!

I thought the standard 12 year was quite good once it had a chance to open up. One of the better 40% abv whiskeys that I have had. I'd normally opt for the cask strength but I picked up the standard on a discount. I was disappointed at first as I generally prefer higher strength, but as the bottle got lower it turned out surprisingly good. It just needs some time. With all that said, the Redbreast line is rather pricey by me in the Chicago metro area, so they're not a frequent purchase for me. Plus my preferred 12 yr cask strength has been very hard to find and upto about $100. Just last year it was $75.
@Gwhisky
@Gwhisky 2 жыл бұрын
Damn that's a hell of q price hike for the cs. It's spectacular stuff, but that definitely stings. As for the regular 12, actually I do like it. I said skip it because it's 40%. It's actually one of the better 40% whiskeys to be had. But at that strength it doesn't get a recommendation. 😉🥃

Tried Yellow Spot this evening. I like it. Compared it to the RB 12, and it has some similarities with the cookie-notes, but Yellow Spot has more of a sour fruit-note, and also a bit more bitey. That older bottling is what I had as well and absolutely loved it. $85 back when I bought it which made it a great value too. Saw the new packaging in the store and NCF has been removed from the label. That is never a good thing. The 12CS has become NAS to my understanding as well. Perhaps this is another brand that has become a victim of its own popularity and they are having trouble keeping up with demand? Cheers

The redbreast 12 Cask strength and 21 on the other hand, well, I seem to only love those ones more and more as I go.
