I remember stumbling into an OOT speed run stream right after the original gohma wrong warp was discovered. I don't recall if it was because I regularly watched the streamer's Wind Waker content, or if I discovered their channel that day due to the huge amount of viewers and later stuck around for the WW runs and time save hunts, as it was over a decade ago and my memory ain't what it used to be, but on that day my mind was blown. I thought that any% was solved, and there would probably be less than a minute to push the record down from there. Of course having just seen someone skip from the Deku Tree to the collapse maybe someone would figure out a credits warp, but as far as the game ending with the defeat of Ganon, I figured it was "solved" and with such a short run the high level players would probably start hitting tied WRs and the wrong warp would be split off into its own category in order for runners to continue improving the classic any% route, lest the wrong warp be the death of any% now that it was essentially "solved." Ah, how wrong I was. Turns out the wrong warp route still had room for some time saving breakthroughs that, over time, pushed the already ridiculously low time far lower than I thought possible. Leave it to N64 speed runners to come up with the craziest things. Impossible may as well not be in their vocabulary. And now we have this. A new, faster wrong warp that shakes things up massively yet again. Could this lead to runners beating Ganon so fast that it crashes Paper Mario?

Honestly, the most surprising part of this route to me is that it's apparently faster to do a bunch more tricks in the bottom of the well to get a shield from the chest than just gathering some more rupees in the intro to buy one when you get the sticks
@AtomicArtumas9 ай бұрын
It's because you also need the chus. The "fast" method there is only like 20-30 seconds at most, which is way faster than gathering the extra rupees since kokiri has no decent money routes for child. It's probably a bit closer for the non-clip method, but the clip method is what anyone serious will be doing since vine clips really aren't that hard to do.
@MarioMastar9 ай бұрын
Likely also accounts for the 2 deku sticks you need to buy as the only other way to get them is to get the sword to kill a stunned Deku baba. Getting 60 rupees would take very long and since you don't go near the Deku Tree, you won't come across sticks naturally. Hence getting it this way.

This is everything I love about speedrunning. A strong development that drastically advances a specific run or category, a combination of different people pushing boundaries over years, and an accidental uncovering of a decades-old hidden value.

As someone who does not have the brain whatsoever for speedrunning, "here is a tricky part" had me thinking "THATS the only thing you think is tricky??"

@@LunaticJIt took me much longer than that just to do vine clip, which is apparently a much easier method 😅

Not only are Nintendo 64 games the last of its era "things that were built to last" but it's also the gift that keeps on giving.. you got to love these games that 20 years later still have surprises

So essentially, the glitch saved the category. Defeat Ganon now once again being alive as a run for people to grind.

You still say "My dough". It's "Me Dough". It's short for midori. A green color in Japanese.

I have been both an obsessed Triforce hunter and a glitch master for almost a decade following the game's release. Gosh, now they made a legit Triforce% run and I'm totally outdated on glitch mastery. It's incredible how much people love that game and poured their soul in it, a quarter of a century after its release. It's not even the same generation that continues our work now from where we left. But don't worry, we never really left either :) #HereTogether

If you fire a bunch of atoms at a plate with a single atom-sized hole in it, there's this very small chance that there may be a speedrunner exploiting bits in Ocarina of Time at the other side...

I like the part where he says I think you know where this is going. That's the part where I rewound to the beginning to see if I can make any sense of what he was saying.

If you're gonna beat the game as quickly as possible with glitches, just smash the game cartridge with a hammer.

The moment you showed link fast hopping 3 times through side to side walls to achieve a hexadecimal number in memory was like watching a high multidimensional being showing and explaining how easy you can phase out of existence and reappear In the future and place desired. I was like a monkey watching it.

The L is Real 2401 stone in front of the warp door predicted this glitch in Zelda instead of something related to Mario 64, (2024 january) ironic.
