In my lower 6th year in 1977 we built a 4 inch gauge live steam version of the Rocket. Only problem was we then after the boiler test had to cast aluminium track for it to run on. As far as I know the school still has the loco as well as the track albeit extended quite extensively around the school grounds.

This is the one I'm most looking forward to seeing you build. It's such a beautiful piece of kit. Thought I'd like to try building it but with my nails, it'd be disastrous 😂

Scary, but I'm sure it'll be fine. If great great great uncle cousin George could make the real thing without instructions, I should be OK.

that is a very nice kit. I'll have to look out for one.

And... Back on the shelf and shall never be opened again. Haha, just kidding. Making that wood look like metal is going to involve some thick surface primer and a lot of sanding. I've never built one of these Occre kits but have had some fun with the Model Airways ww1 plane kits. Since they really were mostly wood I've spent countless hours sanding off laser char from the wood so it looks somewhat like a airplane of the period. At least with this one the char stains could be left on to resemble tar pitch used to seal between the wood.

It is indeed in the partly done pile, awaiting some enthusiasm.
