Occupational Therapist Explains the Vestibular System

Thanks. I had never heard of this! Is there any info for teens who might have this? My adopted teen has adhd, anxiety and APD. She was very active as a child, very coordinated in sports and earned a black belt in Taekwondo in the 8th grade. Now she is not active, doesn’t leave the house much, and complains of nausea, dizziness often. Can vestibular issues develop later (after childhood)?

It's not uncommon for the vestibular system to change as we age. Although, I am wondering if she might have had an ear infection or something else which might have affected her inner ear. I would start with a trip to the pediatrician to see if there's something medical going on. And then it might be worthwhile to pursue an OT evaluation for further discovery.
