Hard to tell. Honestly, I really see myself becoming a medical lab tech because I like to work with my hands more than staying on a desk in front of a computer all day. I like analyzing and working in a lab. I don't see myself becoming a doctor nor do I see myself as a researcher. I think it's the kind of job that's really rewarding, in some case you have contact with patients too. I'm more drawn to becoming a medical lab tech in the microbiology lab though! More than hematology!

There's also the military way.. It took 13 months for me to become a MLT.. There's people who just graduated high school that go through the same course.. It is very accelerated. The second day I had to start drawing blood.. Some people were very nervous. It was fun! Like college. Military college. Alcohol lol..

1) She sounds like me Midwest accent/British dialect! 2) Completing my junior year in MLS studies it's exciting to know what's going on in the video, things I do every week in class :) 4)MLS is an Ace study and field more people should know about it, and it's a great beginning study for people who want to do medicine, pharm, or genetics!

If you are going to be working in this field for >10yrs, you should really consider a 4 yr program because of the difference in pay.

I have chosen this course Bsc.MLT...its a 4 year course with monthy lab practice each year under Kerala University,India...this course tough..but i'm ready to work hard..hope to a good MLT & also help the others too.. :)

4 year degree (usually 2 years gen ed and 2 years program) and then if your program is accredited you can sit your certification. I have one more year to go in my program (ps I'm in the states, might be diff rent elsewhere)

As a student of the MLS program at the UofA I can help verify that currently in Alberta the starting wage of an MLT is around $32/hour at the moment. Atleast 1 year is required before applying to the program so that all the prerequisite courses are completed then after being accepted it takes 3 years to finish the program. A degree is obtained and the certification exam is taken during the summer following graduation. Currently at the UofA only 29 students are accepted every year and the program is VERY intensive. Should you consider this field make sure first you enjoy working in a laboratory, it take a very particular personality to work in this field of medicine. When it comes to tuition fees MLS students pay just as much as regular science students. In the end MLS students eventually earn just a few dollars less than nurses but pay a far cheaper tuition fee over time.

NAIT also offers this program. Do you recommend people to take it though since you mentioned UofA is quite difficult to get into? Also, how intensive is the program?What are some things that candidates can start working on before they start taking this program?

why don't you try to find a job in the gulf countries like Kuwait, Qatar or the UAE , salaries there are much better

This job is recession proof. I got a job out of college and got paid $11 an hour, big bucks. I was fired and i have not been a lab tech for 8 years now. I love that the feild is resession proof.
