Great talk. You're doing great work for the hobby Adam. Keep it up man.

This and Reef Beef are the two most informative reefing podcasts in my humble opinion. If you're in Canada, Frag Garage are the nicest and most bullet proof frags. Well worth the price, especially the cheaper stuff if, like me, you can't afford the really $pendy stuff.

Yippee,, Sunday reef content. Thank you I love all of these interviews!! I think I’m burned out on basic info, these shows fulfill my craving for more information

This was a really insightful conversation. Thank you so much for taking the time to give us this powerful information. I’m from Romania and I’ll use, for sure, Oceamo lab testing. I am just curious to know why Oceamo stoped the collaboration with Aquabiomics. As I know, in this moment, there’s no way in Europe for people to test their tank microbiome or DNA.

Love it that Christohph pointed to an important little known fact that KCl dips likely works by inactivating animals nervous systems. It actually does the same to the nervenet syncitium of the corals as well, but it doesn't kill them. For those interested: High extracellular K+ depolarizes the membrane potential of nerve cells such that becomes inactivated, paralysing or killing the bugs. It is the same in mammals and humans. Inject a human with KCl in the blood stream and it will inactivate the nervous innevation of the heart, making it stop rapidly.
@Oceamo6 ай бұрын
Thanks! Yes, its often stated that the KCl Dip is only effective by high salinity, which is certainly not correct.

Dr Christoph... the radioactive tagging study you mention that hopefully some day gets funding. That is very similar to what I do except in people... imaging radioactive tracers to see how the body/organs take up elements to see functionality.... So like, if anyone ever wants to hire someone to do this study, I'm all in!!!

My iodine is 402 and my acros have never looked better. I’m working to get it down to be safe.
@fraggarage59228 ай бұрын
Wow, that's quite high and surprising.. Did it get raised to that level slowly over time?
@TheTrevor408 ай бұрын
About two months apart on my tests. It was high two months ago and so I stopped adding additional but the All for Reef seems to be super high on this batch or it’s because I dose a crazy amount now on my sps tank. I have since stopped dosing AFR as much and adding more Kalk and Soda Ash.

402 is high, but you want have any issues there.

Adam, this was a great talk as usual love your guests and the topics you cover. I can’t figure out, as a hobbyist in the US do I order an Oceamo ICP MS test?

Potassium is taken up a lot by montipora! A lot! So this tells me most of it is anekdotal... btw. I am 30 years into this hobby....
@fraggarage59228 ай бұрын
Interesting if it's taken up faster than acropora and other sps?
@AMGEE8 ай бұрын
@@fraggarage5922 yes. The coral god (jake adams) has also made this experience. That way it is a little more than anekdotal😀 i once was literally turning my tank around when an ICP test showed very low potassium and all my digitatas (half of the tank which is 500g) were nearly dead. Filled up the missing amount and voila all the montis came back within 2 days. Other corals didnt care.

Tin is a great anti corrosive coating material. For example many steel components etc meant to be used in or near saltwater have it. For example many saltwater fishing hooks have tin coating. I would not be surpriced if many razor blades would have tin coating. Mr Oceamo is just not aware of this... 🤔

I'm sorry you find my insights self indulgent..?! Navigating these conversations with delays on Skype, some guests being less talkative, means I just try my best to keep things interesting and moving along, while adding my experiences here and there.. At the end of the day, it's just a conversation.
