We look at color and fast growth as an indication for health in the aquarium hobby but corals are not colorful, pretty brown and much stronger skeleton in the wild. Makes you wonder if the colors we are trying to get from our corals is actually making my them healthy…

I appreciate someone like Johnny so much in this hobby, making it affordable for the average reefer. $1000 for a frag feels like a scam. Especially when the pictures representing the coral are edited.

Man oh man, must be nice to have the NP working correctly. For me it's just an over priced nitrate tester. Neptune has sent me 4 of them and 100% of the time the phosphate reading is zero. This product absolutely does not work. I started using the Reef Factory Smart Tester for Phosphate and it works amazingly well. If Reef Factory would ever release nitrate reagents I would ditch the NP.

The brown crud from IO Reef Crystals does not remix, it seems lighter than water. It wont stick to bucket with RO/DI water but it does float and seems to aggregate together. Ive left it for about a week with flow and heat and it makes a weird scattered almost like ice effect. The longer you leave it the more it aggregates together but doesnt seem to mix into the water or sink in the water column. People seem to think its an impurity in the NaCl. My buckets all mix different as well some clean as hell, others leave a brown film no matter what.

Great session as always. Adam I'm struggling for polyp extension on my acros across both tanks. One tank has a mitratus butterfly, the other has a red sea angel- do you think these are the soul contributors to this? Both ICP's are good and both tanks corals are growing, but day time polyp extension is whack :(

Fluorine is quite toxic in its inorganic form. The reason some people find problems dosing fluoride is because they have low trace metals. There are a couple of those metals that are important in the conversation of fluorine to an organic form that is non-toxic.

They have thousands of gallons of water and do basically weekly icp tests and treat it as a full time job. You do not. My buddies 250gallon tank has been wiped out twice by bad batches of IO. Most recently about 3 months ago his zinc shot up to 250 But because he does icps every couple months instead of weekly it was too late. The crazy part is that if you are buying salt retail because you are not a business or have thousands of gallons IO is only like $10 cheaper than most "high end salts" i used to use reef crystals, but i was tired of my mixing bin being full of disgusting crud and bird feathers.
@m4a1JAY26 күн бұрын
@ Been reefing for over 20 years. Always used IO salt. Your buddy just had other issues. Technically coral farms do water changes daily because they bag the water for shipping and replace the saltwater.

Hey Adam, question for you: I recall in one of the episodes you spoke about coral boring Spionid worms. I cannot for the life of me find the exact episode, but I’d love to hear if you have any tricks to kill them. I have them in my current tank and I’m desperately trying to not have them in my new tank as they completely ruin the look of the acropora and encrusting corals. Any meds you’ve found that will eliminate them?
