*This makes my old motor look like a toy **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it's well built. I haven't had it on the water yet, but I'm very sure it will perform just fine.*

I like that you cut the attachment screws off the trolling motor mount itself and used the thumb screw to attach it. That’s a very clean look.

Now you need to make a video of the kayak in action with the trolling motor running.

I have the same kayak with a very similar solution. The only significant differences are that my steering cords (I used sailing rope as it does not stretch like paracord) I ran though the boat using a thin tube made of pex pipe. The notches for the pie exist in the rear where the rudder controls go and you can run them right up to where the foot braces are by drilling a hole there, I flared out the ends of the Pex pipe and sealed with silicone so water does not get into the boat. I also put the battery in the front and I mounted the switch in the long center cover which I upgraded to the "mod pod" cover.

Awesome ideas man. The only thing id say is i wish you would have included pics of the electirical housing disassembly on the motor and the hack saw of the shaft. But great video dude. Ill be doing something very similar thanks to you. I think my motor mount attached the kauak will be able to use the original motor attachment clamps.

Great video! I like how you modified the motor to work more comfortably in the yak. Good job!

The tilt and height adjustments remain intact and work just they do when it was stock. Have not had a need to adjust the height even when beaching the yak. The locking tilt does come in handy when transporting, etc.

actually, the brass nuts surrounded by rubber are more commonly called well nuts. great vid, I am going to follow your design for the mount you made and attached to your yak for a rudder I have planned. thanks

I believe they called an expanding nut. You can find them in the hardware section of Home Depot, Lowes, etc.

I like to give a friendly heads up as far as the motor mount and the release control tab. I did almost the same thing as you, but I used a 30lb Bass Pro motor. I sawed off most of the teeth that held the motor up for two reasons. If you hit a rock, or tree branch you are either going to rip the motor mount clear off the kayak, or even worse, it might tip the kayak.

The shrink tube came from Harbor Freight I believe. It's really easy to transport: One thumbscrew to remove the motor and unsnap the steering lines near the pedals.

Mike, thank you for taking the time to post. Can you detail where to get a speed control switch and a kill switch?

Excellent video! I like the idea of the conduit box speed control. That has been the biggest hang up for me to this point. Where did you find shrink tube that size? How easy is it to remove for transport? I had planned on installing a trolling motor plug in line so I could take the motor off. Dovetails, classic strong joint. Must be a wood worker also? :-)

I'm wondering where to get those brass fittings. What are they called, and where do I get them? Great video! Thanks for your contribution!

The speed control switch came right out of the trolling motor head. You could also mount it in the kayak for a more permanent solution. I didn't bother with a kill switch.

Hi Mike, I did something very similar to my prowler 13. I fitted a plug and socket at the stern, so I can just plug the lead from the motor into it. The wires are fed to a self setting trip switch, the speed control is fitted into a small plastic box with a cooker knob to rotate for speed. The wires continue to a car battery, now that becomes a bit of a weight problem for me. Can you or anyone recommend a suitable battery, as a car battery is really too heavy for me to pull up the slip due to age and health. I'd be grateful for any ideas folks.

is it possible to make that trolling motor so that it can be stowed in the kayak and launched from the kayak while on the water?
@mbdtw
@mbdtw 7 жыл бұрын
I did retain the locking mechanism for the "trim". It can be stowed when not in use. If you wanted a way to drop it down, you would have to come up with a way to pull the lever or have to reach back to do so.
