Looks exactly like my kayak stand. Forgot where I saw the plans for it (built it about 8 or 9 yrs ago) but it works great. Thanks for the trolling motor mod demo. I have been considering putting a trolling motor on my kayak and wondered about this.

Not yet. I will make a video in action soon. I did the same thing to my old 12ft Ocean OK Drifter kayak with out a rudder.The Drifter handled well but had a push at high speed.The 14ft wilderness Manta Ray is what i am using now with rudder it has a large tank well ,the battery will go behind my fishing crate.

Thanks,i did a couple of vidoes they came out not what i wanted..working on a new one...my kayak is 14ft very stable .never been flipped.. the trolling motor is not a problem and on my old 12ft kayak either. the old 12ft kayak did not have a rudder on it.. The trolling motor would cause a small pushed. nothing big.... with the rudder there is no push at all. i will never own another kayak without a rudder in the wind it`s a big diffrence, good luck

Does the yak go straight with the motor on the side? Or does it track crooked thru the water? Thx

Thank for the Video, awesome. I will be doing this to my trolling motor.

on a metal shaft like that using a tubing cutter and going around the shaft several times would be easier and it would pose no risk of cutting into the wires.

Great video...I have been considering setting up a trolling motor on my yak too, and I was very happy to find your instructional vid...I saw that you said you were going to make a video showing it in operation, if you did I couldn't find it...a few questions, if you did try it, did you find at all that it throws the yak off balance to the side the motor is mounted on, or don't you notice the extra weight on that side? Also, as far as steering goes, which is better/easier...with motor or rudder?

thanks ,. this set up is only been used for saltwater. tidal movement plays a big part on this set up. i never been in fresh water. yet. let me know how it works out .

Nice work, I have kinda the same set up on my Pompano 120. The only thing is that it pulls to the right a lot. Any suggestions ? I don't have a rudder yet. I do plan on rigging a rudder soon.

The motor on most trolling motors is screwed onto the shaft....So why not unscrew the motor from the shaft, cut the shaft with a pipe cutter and rewire at the bottom? If you do it this way, you don't have to disassemble the controls....
@manko33010 жыл бұрын
you can do it the hard way, I did not want to break the bottom seal ,plus only two screws hold the controls. the bottom is a pain.

on a 30 maybe 10mph it depends on what your weight of cargo is. on a kayak it seems fast . anything faster could be too much ( i have a 14ft very stable kayak ) . speed is not what i am looking for.you can never have enough battery. the bigger you go the more weight . good luck
@manko33011 жыл бұрын
no ,had it in the rear tankwel( topside).the fishfinder battery is inside the front hatch.the only time I rolledl any kayak was coming back to the beach from surf fishing. when I surf fish I go skeleton gear.it~s the same as surfing.get ready for the wipeout.

wow what luck finding your video (you are now my newest hero) i have a 42 "shaft motor & want to use it on my canoe.can i ask you a question as i am sure you have the answer.my motor is a 86lb. thrust.is this to much for a canoe.also i have 2 12volt gell batteries that i want to use as 24 volts. am i over doing it ? ican run this motor on 12 volt or 24 volt.so i have options but never tried this before so need youe advice.will the 24 volt be ok ?????thanks in advance.

Will this motor work in salt water if I clamp some zinc on it?

Two trolling motors can be connected to the same speed controller?
@slimjim74118 жыл бұрын
Neat but somebody should really come up with something better than a boat trolling motor. They're geared for thrust and will move a 14' fishing boat about as well as they move a 10' kayak. When if you changed props you could probably get double the speed out of kayak with a electric motor. Which means getting to your spot faster, less run time, and going further.

Just a word of warning, if you shaft is stainless steel (like mine was), you need to be very careful with drilling a new mount hole in it. Stainless is relatively easy to cut with a saw, but it can be a @#$% to drill. There's a technique to it, and you need cobalt drill bits. I ended up having to take mine to a machine shop because I didn't do my research on drilling stainless!

86 lb is alot hp . 30lb motor pulled my 17ft skiff boat easy.my 14ft kayak gets up and go`s. .24 volts will give you more distance. you will have plenty of hp. try both out. p.s internetpilot23 is correct .drilling stainless steel is tricky.good luck.

There is no "which pipe cutter". A pipe cutter is just a pipe cutter, get one cheap at harbor freight. Just make sure it opens enough to fit over shaft. Tighten it, make 2 passes, tighten again,couple passes, done.
