This. They both try to be child friendly and also try to add inappropriate content for adults, which is a horrible mix. I seriously hate it when companies do things like that, being an adult doesn't mean the only way you can be entertained is inappropriate content. Great as some of the stuff is and as fun as it can be, it still rubs me the wrong way when compared to how it was done in the other sims games. Kids have always played the sims, but I feel like there's a big difference between "games kids play that are non-problematic for them" and "games directed towards children". There's no edge to the Sims 4 sadly, nothing really creepy anymore. I understand it's probably harder to do now because the low-res graphics probably contributed to it in the other Sims games, but still

I was so geeked out over the graphics when Bon Voyage came out haha. But I love being a "pirate" sailing the ocean on my houseboat and unlocking secret islands in Sims 3, and of course the deep sea diving, fighting sharks and befrending mermaids...and the kraken!

Sims 2: Oceans are only on specific lots, so having a lot of detail to them is expected and appreciated Sims 3: The ocean is always loaded in due to the open world nature of the game, so it makes sense that there would be a lot less details. sims 4: No sims team, you can't cut the same corners you did in the sims 3... Sims 3 is open world, sims 4 is not. You load a single lot at a time, there should be more detail

Technically, Sims 4 loads in a whole neighborhood at a time and in some cases that's a lot of water. Pretty much all base game neighborhoods have a river or pond for fishing access. But most of the water still isn't swimmable unlike Sims 3 and the water is overall pretty still.

They'd probably just slap ray-tracing and higher resolution textures so your game runs so poorly you don't have time to be mad about anything else, and make you think it's a better game because it has the same basic features we've seen over done for years now in games. Hot take: Games should lean AWAY from getting more and more realistic if realism doesn't suit them. Nobody really needs a game to be super great looking, no one is logging into an FPS game or a game in the Sims franchise of all things to see realism. They play those games for the gameplay, so if the gameplay comes at the cost of the graphics being better, you're just gonna lose fans. For me Sims 4 is the perfect hot spot. I loved Sims 3 as it was the Sims game I played the most as a child (though I did play some before it) but in 2024 the EA launcher doesn't handle it well. Most of my expansion packs aren't there and the game crashes often now so it just isn't stable. I also prefer the Sims 4 graphics because even though they're a little less detailed in some places, they still have the same stylistic charm, the colors in build mode and CAS match my aesthetics more, and I prefer the more detailed models. But again, I draw a line at what I've seen some up-and-coming life simulators attempting these days with hyper-realism that'll make your computer explode. Especially when some of them are using generative AI...

​​@@Algebrainiac Origin was replaced by the EA app, but Sims 3 should still be available there. It's pretty much the same storefront and your old Origin library is still accessible from EA app. That said, EA app is buggy as heck and I personally still have problems installing certain games from it though Sims 3 installed okay. Or if you prefer, Sims 3 is also available from other stores like Steam. As for performance, I've got Sims 3 installed on what's barely more than a notebook laptop with all expansions and a handful of mods. It still has some of the lag issues it always had (NPCs getting lost at the map borders and resetting) but it otherwise runs fine on modern lower end devices.

I like how sims 4 is the one that has more actions available, such as floating on your back, but everyone is like, "aw yeah, older games were made with so much more love and attention" like, guys, did you even watch? There are definitely a lot of actions that are more detailed in sims2/3 such as cooking, but i don't think swimming is it. Background noise is definitely louder, but i can take it or leave it because im playing on silent half the time anyway lmao

This was such a cute video and the world is gorgeous. Will definitely check out your review of fall inspired custom worlds. Oh also the reason your sim already finished their LTW is because the culinary librarian LTW is coded for when Sims 3 only had base game which was something like 38 recipes, including the ones you buy. As they added expansion packs...you automatically learned some new recipes and they never updated the "all recipes" number so you can now get the LTW without even getting to the top of the cooking skill or reading extra books, esp if you have custom foods installed as well.

I thought I’d give it to TS3, but TS2 ocean sounds are more on point (as someone who lived on the Seawall in Galveston). TS3’s looks best kind of, but TS2’s has that chaotic feel of a yellow flag day. TS4’s is too calm. I wouldn’t be able to float on my back in the ocean without getting water boarded.

The ocean in this clip is from Island Living. I know they added swimming functionality to some other worlds around the time that pack came out, but I don't know if they continued to add it to later expansions.

The colors of the ocean in each really capture how much uglier our real life oceans have gotten. In the Sims 2 the water is crystal clear. In the Sims 3 you can see from how much bluer the oceans are how pollution effects are gradually setting in and changing them. Finally in the Sims 4 the water is a disgusting series of green shades showing the end results of humanity not taking care of the oceans. And you only begin to see blues instead of greens when you clean up the land and sea in Island Living.

Try the NRAAS mods. Master Controller will often catch things that are glitching and reset them and either that one or an associated one cleans up stray cars. Be prepared for a lot of notification pop-ups though.

Sims 3 wasn't "100 steps backwards", the corners they cut regarding waves and cars steering into driveways all made sense for the open world. Unlike in Sims 4, there was plenty added to justify what was removed. Sims 2 excited me because it was so different compared to Sims 1, and Sims 3 excited me for how different it was from sims 2. Sims 4 doesn't have anything revolutionary going for it besides the amazing build tool.
