It's probably too late but press J to check the tasks. There you can see what you should build and what it unlocks. Check the warehouse T1 description, what you put there you can use to build anywhere.

Wally you know using tab then you can remove items from hotbar, & it will then put the next item you build in open space. ( you can get rid of all the items you first build in the game. I have the habitat, then advanced miner, part producer, conveyor belt, splitter, advanced builder thing, etc. that way you don't have to keep going into menu, just choose item number.
