Oceania U20s: Junior Wallabies vs New Zealand

The Junior Wallabies have won a maiden Oceania U20s title with a 24-0 win over New Zealand on the Gold Coast.

Rugby Australia have a program called the 'Fighting Fund' in place that is there to keep all the schoolboy and junior talent in rugby. A few of them have rejected NRL offers and have signed on to stay in rugby because of this fund. Hopefully this will stop some of the young talent coming through the ranks from being poached by league🤮, like they have done throughout the past couple of years.

1-22 from the junior kiwis were thinking more of the lucrative contracts and acceptance speeches in their future than the game they were ACTUALLY playing, fortunately the Australians were there to set their thinking straight. Well done Australia.

Most of the kiwi won't get those contracts. The 18 and 19 year olds that are that good already have their contracts and aren't playing for the U20s team. They stay in their Super rugby teams. This is like an U20s reserve grade squad.

There was a realisation after France 2018 the NZ U20s weren't up to it come set-piece (specifically scrummaging) time, & that was going to be their emphasis this year. Looks like we've managed to regress a little further behind than we thought. All the same great stuff Aussies.

This is what Aussies need. Im a kiwi coaching juniors in Sth Auz and even here where sport is not real big, its the greedy money lovers that are ruining the sport. The lack of discipline and respect for the sport is not good! A lot of parents prefer to put their kids in the rich dominating clubs, where the club has 2 teams per grade and still watch their kid on the bench. Rather than building the smaller struggling clubs to a competetive standard. Its rediculous, especially when they have to drive past two clubs to get to training in the first place. If this continues then sadly rugby is dying in Aus, and as much as we love beating Aussie as much as they do us, we'd prefer it to be against an in form Wallabies team that had the pride they used to have.

You have no idea of the huge range of global society that Union draws it's players and support base from and the small range of society that league does. Union is for everyone, from whatever part of the spectrum they're from, whereas league keeps its head above water only when they have a high enough supply of fuckwits to be players and supporters. Not a good look for any region if league has an ample supply of meatheads to be top of the heap.

Coming from playing prems rugby in NZ I was surprised with how great club rugby is in Australia, and looking at this game it just confirms. The issue is that the cream doesn't rise under AR, some of the old dogs need to get out of the union so that the talent can come through.

Can anyone explain to me why the Kiwi player at about 3:40 who makes a break wasn't offside at the ruck? He was bound and not behind the last feet so by my (uninformed) reckoning, should not be able to touch the ball. Does the last feet rule only apply to the defensive team? I was at the game - That wasnt a classy performance from NZ U20 - some lippy players and some bad discipline cost em the game bigtime - I was kinda disappointed in our BOYZ poor display but someone had to lose - it just wasnt our day....well done AUS U20 - well deserved - bright future for Australia Rugby (Much needed dare I say) ------- Hope NZ sort our their players before the U20 World Champs.........they need to refocus - breathe and start again - oh one more thing - DONT DROP the BALL :)
