Hi Ocean, if the dentist makes you a sturdy long lasting night guard there is no reason that you should have to replace it down the road! I grind my teeth and I was made a thick plastic night guard from sturdy material and it never broke or wore down from the grinding. In fact, when I need a crown (my teeth are terrible) I bring the night guard and they adjust it to my new shaped crown. If she makes you a flimsy night guard then yes, you might wear it down. My recommendation to you is question the material she will be using before she makes it.
