Dove for 22 years prior to getting an Ocean Reef Neptune II (the precursor to this mask) in 2004. WILL NEVER GO BACK TO STANDARD REGULATOR/MASK AGAIN! Not a single problem with it and so much more comfortable and never a leak or fog up. You can ditch and don easily, and go to an Octopus spare reg and if you want, carry a spare mask but I don't. I could rig my mask with my Octopus reg on it too but in 45 years of diving I've never needed to go to a backup regulator on a dive and will just continue to keep the Octopus 2nd stage separate.

mysteryliner I think most people bring an octopus and a second mask. However, it is possible to get your mask back on by tilting it back, purging it, and slipping it on.

LimitlessDeadline well... Everyone should bring an octopus!! My point is that if anything goes wrong with this configuration, you automatically create an extra problem... An extra piece of equipment that fails. If there is an issue with the visor, you loose air supply. If there is an issue with your primary air supply, you need to go blind before you get air again

I think this is more geared toward tec divers and they usually have back ups for all critical equipment.

mysteryliner Not so. You can actually add in another second stage to one of the side ports of this mask. It’s an extremely configurable mask with lots of options that can be added. I have the Ocean Reef Predator. I use a switchable air block which allows me to feed my mask from either my main tank or a pony bottle. All my hoses have quick disconnect fittings on them. I carry a low volume backup mask and a spare second stage (also with a quick disconnect fitting) that I can simply pop on the hose should I have a second stage failure in my mask. However, I’ve been diving since 1982 and have never had a second stage failure. For that matter, I’ve never had a regulator fail at all. But I’m still prepared just in case. Furthermore, my BCD’s power inflator also has an additional second stage built into it for emergency use.

JKCDLT Actually, this mask is good for any diver. Once you use one, you’ll never want to go back to a standard dive mask. It eliminates jaw fatigue, stays fog free, allows you to communicate with other equally equipped divers, and all around makes for a far more comfortable dive. I also have a full beard, yet this mask doesn’t leak a drop. I also like that its secured to your head at 6 connection points so you don’t need to worry about a mask strap breaking or another diver getting to close and accidentally knocking your mask off with their fins.

Is it also possible to wear glasses under a mask like that? I am at the point where normal masks with interchangeable lenses almost no longer work. Firstly, because of my increasingly strong astigmatism, but moreover due to the -6.5 total correction, I need. I know that contact lenses are an option and that opticians also make masks but I don't like both of those options.

Regular glasses won't work, because the temple tips would create an opening in the mask skirt, allow water to enter. You'll want a hood with a "skin" on the outside for the mask skirt to rest on, rather than resting on neoprene foam. (Foam compresses with depth, and can therefore leak.) Several companies make such hoods in different thicknesses for different water temperatures. Henrique Burle Not necessarily. That would be true if you don’t open your surface air valve, but it’s not often lots of air anyway. Just don’t forget to shut it on the way down!

Hmmm been diving one since 2004 and NEVER HAD A PROBLEM and would NEVER go back to the old regulator/mask combo again. I dove those for 22 years...
