STORY INFO:
It was a sad day in Oceanside at family members, law enforcement, and community members paid tribute to Martin Milner who passed away on September 6th, 2015.
He was best known for his leading role in the show ‘Adam-12’, a show about LAPD officers and their jobs. Milner’s show was so popular and his character was so likeable that it inspired countless people to join LAPD and serve their community.
Today’s memorial service was held at the First Presbyterian Church in Oceanside this morning.
Officers from as far as LAPD were there wearing traditional uniforms to pay respect to a man that gave so much publicity to law enforcement.
Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck paid tribute to the late actor Martin Milner today for inspiring thousands of men and women to become LAPD officers through his portrayal of a beat cop on TV’s hit show “Adam-12.”
Milner died at his home Sunday night at age 83. His death was first reported by the entertainment Website TMZ.
“Adam 12 and Martin Milner embodied the spirit of the LAPD to millions of viewers,” Beck said in a statement released by the LAPD’s Media Relations department. “His depiction of a professional and tough yet compassionate cop led to thousands of men and women applying to become LAPD officers, including me. Godspeed Martin, you will live forever in our hearts.”

I started my career in law enforcement partly due to the inspiration I got from Adam-12 and retired as a Lieutenant. R.I.P. MARTY.

I cannot describe how sad I am at learning of Marty's passing. He said he did not fear death because he knew he would see his daughter Amy again in Heaven. He inspired me and many others to embark on law enforcement careers and to emulate the character he so beautifully portrayed on Adam-12. A good, kind man has passed from our midst and we should rejoice that he has met his Heavenly Father.

I watched this show in 1974, as a kid. It influenced me to Join the NSW Police in Australia. I joined as a Cadet at age of 16. I got more training from watching this show, than the instructors at the Police Academy. Training back then was just in the class room. We never got taught how to handcuff people, how to stop a car. How to approach a car with guns drawn. How to instruct offenders to get out of the car, lay down, legs spread hands on back of the head etc. We got shown how hand cuffs work, lock, unlock, in a class room. And some shooting on the firing Range. Changed all now of course. I'm now 58 years old, on a generous Police pension, living in Asia, sitting back drinking beers on the beach. I think one of main influences with me joining the Police, was 1 Adam 12. Mr Milner, you have no idea how many lives you have influenced Thank You and R.I.P.

I've been to so many funerals for police officers. TAPS gets me Everytime. And growing up Adam-12 led to my career in law enforcement. Martin Milner and Kent McCord set the bar high. Everyone who has walked in a Police Officers shoes are proud of the job they have done. And at the end of the day, the Police Officers #1 job is to go home at the end of their shift. Thank You for posting this and Thank You for bringing the patrol car. I feel as though I just lost a piece of my childhood. Rest in Peace Officer Malloy. You've served your city well.

One of my greatest memories was when Martin Milner hosted a radio show in San Diego about fishing, and I was a caller into the show. He let me ask an "Adam-12" question after my fishing question. I asked him about an episode called "The Search" where he is alone after crashing a police car over a cliff in Griffith Park. I asked him why the story wasn't continued. A week later, he's all patched up and back behind the wheel of a new police car. We were never told if the guy he was chasing was ever caught, how long his character was laid up, or whether the fugitive in the woods who stole his gun was ever caught. Martin Milner, in his own humorous way, responded, "I was up and about in about 3 or 4 days, but I was in better shape then than I am now." Thanks for the memories.

"The Search" was one of my favorite episodes! Funny thing: I looked up the location they broadcasted - major continuity issues less! Unless the house was built after they filmed there, if 1-Adam-12 was where he said he was, he'd have crashed the police car into someone else's living room and therefore, not be missing! LOL

I watched Adam 12 series as a kid. It certainly helped to inspire me to go into law enforcement. I am proud that I was able to do 30 years. I now work for the county as a Harbor Master. Still dealing with the public, although on a less intense level. They were actors, but they portrayed police officers in a positive way, not often found today. Kids need positive role modals growing up. If not us, then who?

Thank you. Because of Adam 12, I spent 26 years playing cops and robbers. I worked AIFU (most current LAPD cops have no idea what thet means), Motors, CRASH and Vice. Off duty I worked seveal movie jobs where Adam 12 was being shot on location. Martin Milner was a professional. He was fantastic to work with and I will forever be gratefull for the opportunity to meet and work with him. KMA

An unforgettable TV series. In my country "Adam Twelve" (in spanish "Área Doce") was aired from the beginning to the mid 1970's every Saturday afternoon, if I remember correctly, at 5:30 or 6:00 pm. My father, who died in 1987, and me, who in 1975 was finishing elementary school, never missed an episode. God bless Martin Samuel Milner (1931-2015) "Officer Pete Malloy" and William Boyett (1927-2004) "Sergeant William ´Mac´McDonald" Greetings from Venezuela.

....will never forget the fact that i BOLDLY drove up to Martin MILNERs residence back in 1973 (Fallbrook, CA) walked up to his front door knocked and thru the screen door he came outside......told him i was interested in touring his place and was pleased to meet him with a handshake as an avid ROUTE 66/ADAM-12 fan/viewer (young/dumb age 23 LOL !)......(never will forget the fact that he was covered from head to toe with 'freckles' which are not apparent on black/white TV)........he stated "i do not mean to sound inhospitable but i do not generally give a tour of my place AND we were just getting ready to sit down to eat".......stated it was such a pleasure to meet him alongwith the fact i had been a neighbor all my life having grown up on Tamarack beach in Carlsbad and was a '68 grad from Carlsbad High School as well.........apologized having disturbed him with a handshake saying thank you for your quality time .....got back in my vehicle and departed his then 'ranchstyle' home in the avocado groves of Fallbrook and departed heading back to Oceanside where i was then living off of Hill/California Streets......(at the time was a Police Science student at Mira Costa College in Oceanside)......six months later RE-enlisted into the AF and entered the Air Police/OSI career fields lasting thru 1988.........(should Marty's widow happen to read my comment will probably remember that particular day)........do not really think anybody believed me when returning to Oceanside/Carlsbad that i actually pulled off this maneuver.......LOL! ......it definitely was a GREAT PLEASURE having met Martin MILNER for sure .....he did in fact inspire the rest of my life within the 'law enforcement/investigations' career field.........R.I.P ....over the past 7 years have had the 'ironic' pleasure of having MET/worked alongside Marco LOPEZ (ADAM-12 co-host AKA: Officer SANCHEZ/'Dragnet' co-host/personal friend of THE Jack WEBB) and long standing co-host of the TV Series "EMERGENCY" .....we both have a part-time gig at the Las Vegas Convention Center working within the trade show industry .......

Good morning Mister Hendriksn. In the 1970´s Venezuela was not a Communist country. Although our TV was in black and white format in that time, we were a democracy which was an example to the rest of South American nations, many of them were subjected to military dictatorships, like Brazil, Peru, Chile and Paraguay. Communism began in my country in 1999, with Hugo Chavez and have been continued with his succesor Nicolas Maduro. I also remember that after "Adam Twelve" was aired another unforgettable TV series: "Emergency". I don´t know if "Adam Twelve" was aired in Soviet Union in the 1970´s but the western series "The Rifleman", starring Chuck Connors (RIP), was the american favorite show of General Secretary of the Central Comitee of Communist Party of the Soviet Union Leonid Brezhnev (1906-1982) . Could you imagine it?

Well, in youtube I found a way to practice my writing in enclish, a language which I learned more than twenty years ago in EDELCA, an electrical engineering company in which I worked as a technical draftsman in AUTOCAD. EDELCA built hydorelectric plants of Guri, Macagua I and II and Caruachi. I am retired fron the company since December 2012 and I am dedicated to other activities.

Calm and brave in the face of danger. Good natured with a great sense of humor. I admire him and Kent McCord for their acting on Adam 12. As a past volunteer firefighter/EMT of 27 years, I was and am a major fan of Emergency, Adam-12, and Dragnet. The Actors/Characters were so good at what they did/portrayed. They set me on a path to be like them all and get into the fire service. It was an amazing time and I cant say enough on how professional, how accurate, and and how good they all were. I will always consider them as much a part of my firefighting family as the people I was in the field with. I see the same thing in Adam-12 and the police department. Martin Milner and Kent McCord were to the police as all of the Emergency Personnel were to the fire service. Amazing, professional, and accurate. I have to say, Jack Webb was an amazing man. He created the 3 best shows when it comes to public safety, Dragnet, Adam-12, and Emergency!! So many people have gone into these fields because of these shows and the people in them. Heroes All!! Rest Easy Mr. Milner or should I say Officer Malloy!!

today Sunday October 22rd 2016 May Martin Milner rest in peace, yes he was an actor, but he was a man devoted to show but also devoted to show him the right way of life By , showing the children across the United States to abide the law. To teach right and wrong way life, the element of honesty. I believe that was the whole reason for the show. Lock up the crooks that did bad things. AND YES ( THEN AND NOW )I LOVE THE SHOW ( 1 Adam 12 ) now no I am not a policeman, but I watch that show my whole childhood, But what's even funnier just yesterday Saturday October 21st I must have watched 20 episodes (( I WATCHED THEM ALL DAY AND NIGHT )) back to back as I lie here in bed. I would love to see one of the replicas that were restored of ( 1 Adam 12 ) police car, from the actual show.( A Studio car) or is this one one that just isn't made up . I hate to say it like that but is it a actual replica ? (((( now I know what Adam-12 show was not as popular as Batman)))) (((( BUT one of the original Studio cars should sit right next to the Batmobile )))) 1 Adam 12 . Now nothing against the gentleman that owns the Plymouth satellite but there is earlier models that were used more frequently. The one Adam-12 show or the studio must have had a contract with Chrysler Corporation, because all of the cars usad they were all Chryslers. ( EXCEPT -- for the matadors which were American Motors. But at the time American Motors was merging with the Chrysler Corporation. And there's nothing wrong with that. Now I remember the most frequent car did they use was a matador which was then American Motors merging with the Chrysler Corporation. You see I've been in the automotive business for 37 years so I pretty much know the history of cars companies merging difference models that have failed in sales. But none of that matters here, what matters here is the man the actor that I believe was a good man and no I didn't know him, but I'm going to remember him one half of the duo of one Adam-12. What Adam 12 1 Adam 12 see the man I believe his cat is caught in the tree ! Ha ha I don't think that this ever happened in an episode Yes this tape is from last year at his service was in September of 2015. MAY Martin Milner I hope he rest in peace on the right hand of Our Lord,

I LOVED THE SHOW ADAM 12 I WAS A KID. BUT LEARNED ALOT BY WATCHING ADAM 12. I WAS A YOUNG GIRL MALLOY AND REED SAID HITCH HIKING WAS BAD. IT REALY SCARED ME I NEVER HITCHED A RIDE FROM ANYONE. SO MANY EPISODES TAUGHT US LESSONS OF EVERYDAY LIFE. I WATCHED DRAGNET TOO WAS MY FAVORITE TOO. I TOLD MY SISTER GROWING UP IF I GET STOPPED BY A COP I HOPE IT'S MALLOY AND REED. I HAD A BEST FRIEND WHEN I WAS IN SCHOOL HE WAS A DEPUTY SHERIFF HE ALWAYS WATCHED OUT FOR US. IF WE HAD A PROBLEM WE CALLED HIM FOR HELP AND ADVICE ON THINGS. I HAD A ROUGH TIME GROWING UP WASN'T SO GOOD AT HOME. FELT GOOD THAT WE HAD A FRIEND WHO REALLY CARED ABOUT US WAS OR DEPUTY SHERIFF FRIEND. I HAVEN'T SEEN HIM IN YEARS I HOPE HE IS DOING GREAT. BUT HE WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED BY MY SISTER AND I. SO I COULD RELATE TO ADAM 12 COPS AREN'T THERE TO HURT YOU THERE THERE TO HELP. I LOVED THE SHOW ADAM 12 SORRY ABOUT MALLOY PASSING AWAY. WAS SAD FOR ME TO HEAR ABOUT HIM PASSING AWAY. WANT TO SAY HI TO REED. HOPE REED DOING WELL. YOUR FAN DALE.

Ah man did not know he had passed. My brother and I would play adam12 and pretend we were patroling. He was Pete and I was Jim because I was the youngest. Great times back in the seventies. Funny my brother has passed also.

yellow driver 602 condolences on the loss of your brother and Marty. My sister and I used to pretend we were characters from all the shows, especially in the opening 😂. My baby sister has passed too, so many great memories, and for some of us plenty of years left to enjoy them. 🙏

It was great to watch shows like Adam-12 back then because, unlike the filth being shown today, there was no profanity, nudity or any of the nonsense Follyweird seems to think they have to put in everything they do today. Adam-12 was just a great show to watch and so close to what the actual officers did back them. RIP, Officer Malloy.

All say he was a great man but i think the reason he was loved so much was he stayed true to his roll and didn't try to be bigger than the message. He was a spokesman for what is good about the LAPD and civil order. Of course, we know now, the LAPD was horribly corrupt and racist before and during the time depicted. These issues are not addressed in jack webbs vision of the LAPD. I lived close to Marty. He was highly thought of in our neighborhood.

People are thanking firefighters and rescue workers all the time and that's how it should be. But police officers have it hard with just the criminals alone plus they are hated for their jobs by the very people they are trying to protect! How would you like it if you were a police officer trying to protect and the very people who you're protecting hate you with a passion?!? Yes it's a tv show but they acted real incidents that actually happened and that was during a time when alot of people including some in Hollywood hated the police!

He may have been "Just An Actor" in your eyes, but he played a policeman at a time when alot of people hated the police(just like today). He narrirated a police training video and did alot for the police. O and may I add that some of the Adam-12 episodes were used to train police officers. If you wore the Blue Uniform, thank you very much for your service and I hope you WOULD appreciate a Hollywood actor like Martin Miller who said yes to helping you and your comrades. But if you have not worn it then....just keep in mind of what he and so many others have done to help with Police Officers who every day are willing to die for your freedom!
