I've been watching/reading a lot of H.P. Lovecraft, so, to me, it looks like something out of an HPL tale. Cthulhu rises from the sea at last! It truly is an awe-inspiring work that gives me renewed faith in CGI. Most CGI has looked so dreadful to me, but this... WOW! It's better than most full-length movies I've seen lately ("Battle for LA", "Skyline", and others of that ilk). I plan to watch this again very soon!

+ali Servan F( Is it Lovecraftian? Is it? It's just because it had tentacles, isn't it? It had a creepy atmosphere and the protagonists were utterly overwhelmed by the power of the thing, but it has none of the needless aliens backstory and exposition, nor does it play up human disgust with nature's weirdness or drive the reader mad with lamentations that we aren't the center of the universe. ...Yes, I agree, cool tentacles, awesome sounds. Just stop giving the man credit for inventing fear of monsters.

I'm going to assume that guy just fell into the water, watched as the thing pulled the structure into the water, and then was picked up by a fishing boat. He lived happily ever after, although he did have to go to a PSTD counselor for a few years to work everything out emotionally. Also, the guy that got thrown out of the water? Surprisingly enough, he was alive and found floating in the water by some sealed containers that held supplies and enough air to keep them afloat and after a rough go was also taken to land on the same fishing boat. After recovering from his injuries, including a mild case of the bends, he also went to counseling, but now is married to his highschool sweetheart, has two kids and runs 3 gas stations in the Netherlands. Later they returned to the sea and made friends with the oil monster, which apologized profusely for acting so rashly. It now patrols the seas fighting for justice and low oil prices.

+marc biff Because not everyone subscribes to the Hollywierd predilection with saccharine endings. If it makes you feel better imagine this was the opening sequence of some over produced boringly predictable blockbuster disaster movie, after the opening credits more disasters happen worldwide until the implausibly immaculately groomed female lead who's supposed to be some kind of scientist figures out what's going on just by looking at a computer screen with half a dozen blinking pixels displayed, explains it in typically ridiculous technobabble (written into the script by some arts major who broke out in hives when exposed to science at school) to the chiseled jaw male lead, they defeat teh evuls with a plan so ludicrous it makes the laws of physics curl up in the corner and cry, everyone cheers and the girl gets the guy. Roll end credits (full of CGI & SFX teams who are ashamed of what they worked on but they needed to pay the rent; and they never, ever, list this abortion on their resumes) Optional - end credits scene "Oh no it had babies!!!" Cue even crapper sequel. Directed by Michael Bay.

+Rubbermatt Very good but don't forget the wounded hero that everyone thought was dead appearing out of nowhere after climbing out of a 1 mile deep crevasse with a broken arm who shoots the monster's baby just as it's about to bite the heroine's head off.

Yeah, I watched that after I watched this, and it was pretty enjoyable. I always like watching animators talk about how they did something, and they had some really interesting things to say, as well as a rather unique approach. I was just thinking yesterday, in fact, how one of the animators talking about working on simulations started saying how that part "can get pretty scientific and technical." And it does. That's the fun of it, you start feeling like a scientist as much as an artist.
