You may have misheard us. Ocelots are the largest members of their genus, not of all small cats. That said, ‘small cat’ is a colloquial umbrella term, not a scientific classification, and what is and isn’t considered a big or small cat is hotly debated. Some do consider cougars to be small cats, while many do not. Unlike “big cats” they can’t roar, but also, the males can weigh up to 100kg. Compared to around 15kg for an Ocelot, which is on the larger end of ‘small cats’. Hope this helps.

I had one walk right up to my deer stand back in 95 in Freer Texas. He rolled around in the sand for a couple of minutes then disappeared back into the dense thicket.
