Unfortunately it is made difficult. I guess Indian government will come with some innovations where you surrender the passport and give document and OCI process is done and issued automatically

I have uploaded both picture and signature cropped and got a ‘crop is fine’ but I keep getting ‘format or name of the file is not valid’. Tried 5times but keep getting rejected. Help! What can I do now?

Thanks so much for this, however when I'm busy doing the upload of the photo and signature it doesn't load fully and then says at bottom of screen "format or name incorrect". I'm not sure if it's because I have been doing it at night and maybe the website doesn't work properly. I will try again and see if it works during the day

Hi it has been sometime but I believe I submitted off white color photo. If you have taken photo from a photo studio who understands India photo speculations you need not worry and if you have used that for your current passport you need not worry

Hi when you come to application page you have tabs on left New OCI Renewal Photo upload Document upload. Just look for this and go to photo upload. See if this resolves the problem

Hi sorry I have a quick question - is it important to put your citizenship no. In the national identification no. I missed putting mine. Also for the details of relatives in India which relatives do you have to put immediate family or extended also? I don’t see a drop down for it just a typing field. Thanks in advance

Hi the national identification number is must. Even though it does not explicitly mention in applications. Relatives could be your direct family member. Father/Mother etc. please check my video you will get to see the demonstration

No question is silly. Thank you for asking. I have a printer/scanner. If you don’t have library in your location will have it for free. I did not use mobile even though there are apps scanner work best.

No you are good to travel anytime to India. Carry Canada passport and OCI when traveling

@gaganheer9758 get it done from a professional studio. Also please call BLS to make sure you have all the documents ready before sending to avoid any surprises. It will make your life easy

Did you scan the signature using a scanner or just took a picture of your signature on your phone? I have tried everything but still getting “format or name of the file is not valid”. Would appreciate your help.

Once I did with scanner and next time with my mobile phone. Both had no issues. Check the format. If not jpeg you can do conversion online

You can fill new application with new photo to avoid any confusion. That’s my suggestion.

I am getting message as format or file name is not valid (photo is in jpj and signature is in jpej). I can see applicant photo or signature is as per the instruction but when click upload I get that error message

You don’t give your passport to anyone. If you physically go to service provider location you show them and keep it with you. If you do it with courier service you just send photocopies self attested. Many have made mistake of sending original passport. Don’t do that

I tried every possible thing, but it keeps saying Format or name of the file is not valid. It is in JPG format, within the dimensions, I have called the office but no one could help. You are the last resort , I have been trying this for over 6 months now, I kept searching and have found you now. Could you please help me with this. The amount of time i have spent on this is frustrating, There is no other errors other than it says file not valid. Sick of this system.

Hi best to call BLS once for this. I would go by the CGI guidelines only and if any issues would contest with the service agency.

Hi do you have ARN? Can you log in to the application and try finding in main OCI section-upload file. If it doesn’t work just start new application and make sure to send the correct one with documents. Hope this helps
