SR Nathan was not an ordinary old man. He was the head of SID ie Singapore’s CIA. He was an extremely sophisticated man who’s certainly not afraid of things as trivial as rain :) mad respect for him

A very memorable parade for everyone especially the officer cadets. Now ORD? Time flies. Mr Teo Chee Hean is now Deputy PM, Minister for Home Affairs. Mr SR Nathan has retired as President. CDF Neo Kian Hong is Permanent Secretary (Education Development). The late President Wee Kim Wee insisted to the then Defence Minister Dr Yeo Ning Hong, that if it rains, no umbrellas for him. Mindef then try to schedule the commissioning parade in June when it is less likely to rain. Impressive sacrifice.

***** I grew up in Singapore in the late 60's. When we were on parade, we swung our arms to the shoulder level. We looked really good. I left my birth country and I now live in the USA. It's not about following the Brits but about looking smart. I've seen the Indian military and S. Korean military swinging their arms so high that it looked very odd. I love traditions and smart parades because it reflects on the country's military.

20:23 SAF really needs to teach its officers and personnel proper ceremonial protocol. When presenting arms/saluting for Head of State, salute is executed (i.e. raise saluting hand) on the last count of "Hormat Senjata", not 1 or 2 seconds after the National Anthem intro starts playing! This kind of basic error is a disgrace to any uniformed personnel!!! I'm talking about the uniformed members in the audience.

abang, thats how they insert the flag party between the guard of honour contingents. i mean can also march from the back, but they alr plan it like this, so oh well. and also they hentak kaki while moving back, so its okay this way. i mean by hentak kaki-ing you can essentially move in any direction, just have to make sure legs 90 degrees, and keep time also.

Ikram 786 Malaysia is prodominantly MALAYS. If the concentration of Malays are higher, so are the fighters. Don't tell me there's no nerdy Malays in Malaysia. Malays are second largest in Singapore and Singapore has barely 1⅓ of Malaysia's population. So there's no surprise there are lesser Malays who are strong and are fighters here. And also don't get it wrong, there are still Malays who learn silat and serve in the military. Most 'strong' Malays serve in the S.O.C branch of Police. I know lots of 'weak' Malays in Malaysia too.
