I just picked up an octatrack; still very much learning it, chopping and sequencing breaks and stuff. anyways, i absolutely love this device... most of the melodic sounds were made with native instruments FM7 (old school) and sampled into the e-mu for further processing. breaks, bass, and other things coming from the octatrack.
the ot is running through the emu's sample input and everything was recorded into a tascam. only thing i did was adjust gain a bit on .wav, this is pure e-mu and ot.
i'm just getting used to the basics and workflow, so this isn't anything complex... but if anyone wants the octatrack project file, you can download it here:

Hi arcologies. If you like, would you tell me about what is the best sampler for beginners? They want to make 90s ambient jungle music
@agit5270
@agit5270 8 ай бұрын
Truth is any daw will do, hardware samplers won't help you do anything better they just have a different workflow which can help to be more creative but if you're starting out i think you should learn the basics first, if you want try some of that old school without spending money workflow i would look into trackers like protracker/fast tracker 2 or renoise If you really really want a sampler i would reccomente something like, an akai s3000 which is pretty cheap

hey there! if someone is looking for a modern hardware sampler that is easy to use for a beginner, i would suggest the toraiz sp16. it's an amazing device, and the prophet analog filter/drive makes it sound lush and deep. It would also be foolish not to recommend the MPC One... or MPC Live/Live2... or even the Akai Force. They are very powerful devices that will allow you to craft an entire song from start to finish. There are thousands of tutorials on youtube that will teach you how to do whatever you want with these devices, so learning is easy. you can often find these for bargain prices if you're open to getting a used one. if you're looking for a vintage sampler, the easiest ones to use, imo, are the akai s3000xl and s5000/6000 series. but truthfully, any sampler can be learned if you just spend a couple of weeks messing around with it and reading the manual. if you want a vintage sampler, just find one that fits your budget (some are super cheap and some are super expensive)... you can make jungle on any of them :) if you're looking to just sit down and make 90s jungle music without a computer and you want an all-in-one solution... you won't find anything better than a polyend tracker or m8 tracker. i think making 90s music is all about limitations and being in a certain state of mind more than anything else. some of the best songs ever made were made with 4 tracks using mono samples on a 30 year old computer. the reason these classic songs are timeless is because of the feeling and soul they have. Samplers allow you to capture your personality and put it in your music... so, sample things that you like! phrases or sounds that capture your emotions... movies, tv, music, field recordings, etc. ANY sampler can be a 90s sampler if you've got the mindset. if you put feeling and heart into your music, you'll love every step of the process regardless of what hardware or software you're using. thanks so much for checking out the video :)

Great work! Do you find OT's workflow comfortable as a main sequencer for external devices?
@arcologies
@arcologies 8 ай бұрын
hey there! yes, it's great as midi sequencer! obviously you can get really complex with the features... but just starting out, learning to sequence midi on it has been a breeze. cc modulation is really easy to setup as well. thanks for checking out the video.

octatrack is absolutely a keeper. at first i was skeptical about the hype... but after about a week of using it, i felt really comfortable; now it's quick to get something going. i haven't even scratched the surface of the OT's complex features either. i've always wanted to try a digitakt too... maybe that will be something i try next. thanks so much for checking out the video.

Another great one man, it takes me places. I've always wanted one of these. More than any other piece of gear. but I hear the learning curve is very steep...
@arcologies
@arcologies 8 ай бұрын
thanks man! i was always put off by the learning curve as well... but then sort of realized that it essentially has a tracker-like workflow with the p-locks and stuff; fx per step, parameters that can change on each step, different samples per step on any track you want... all things a tracker does extremely well. i borrowed a friend's for a couple weeks to see how i liked the workflow and really just had a blast using it. it's also got an incredibly stable midi clock, which is something i've been missing for awhile lol.
@robtronic
@robtronic 8 ай бұрын
yeah man i can see how this would be super useful for all that external gear you have. I thought I would like the tracker work flow, but pretty sure its not for me... at this point I think I have bought the Polyend tracker 3 times and got rid of of it 3 times. LOL! I love the thing but cant seem to finish anything on it and then mostly end up jamming on modular and never recording anything. im considering getting Logic but it just sounds like a boring way to make music when you can have all these cool buttons, etc! 🤣

Sounds great. Did you sample each note of the fm7 into the emu?
@arcologies
@arcologies 8 ай бұрын
hi there! there are 3 patches on the emu that were made with FM7 for this track, one of those patches was built off of a single note sample. the other two are chords i played in at a higher pitch and then transposed down.
