What a great exercise! Thank you for sharing. I'm an intermediate-advancing player and this exercise helps remind me not to overblow those high notes!

Fantastic! That is exactly right! We all have to be reminded to not overblow from time to time!

It is an excellent tone exercise. It's amazing how you control your airflow and make a beautiful sound. I'm a beginner. I felt highly motivated to try this exercise.

Afternoon Dr. Todays tips are great, I have been doing harmonic and octave slurs. My right hand is a bit sore so slurs and intonation (pitch) with a chromatic meter. Also as a treat I dug out Humoresque No7.

Thanks DC! I love Humoresque. Hey, you can only do exercises for so long without a treat!

Some say you blow down in higher octaves and blow more straight in lower ones. I do it instinctly but I wonder why there are different wievs about air direction.

It is true that there is some discussion about how to blow your air in the higher octaves. If you blow too high in the 3rd octave you will be sharp so at some point you need to blow down to keep the pitch down. I really like the idea of blowing higher when you are learning about pitch direction and what it can do for you. After a student understands the process about pitch direction then I promote changing the direction only subtly. I think once you are getting high notes out correctly (without overblowing) then you can manipulate much more minutely. Does that make sense?

What a horrible time. But thanks for the videos. Are you playing in a Muramatsu platinum clad flute? This pandemic battle is causing much stress in obtaining a proper flute; mine was stolen. Just finished PhD’s within the field. Muramatsu has a very distinctive sound and you seems to embolden it. Hence the question. Thinking about flutes in reference to time periods. Muramatsu fits so perfectly within a particular genre. There’s no better within that genre. Anyway trained as a clarinetist and now a flutist. It’s the Golden ratio and the Fibonacci sequences; it’s the mathematical relationship between the fingering systems plus the overtone series etc etc. I hadn’t subscribed but thanks for the videos they’re turning out to be way more useful than I had originally thought. Thank you.

Six month battle with the insurance company. I guess that’s why they mean by trade wars. I am so annoyed. I have a set of flutes I would like to replace it. But the Muramatsu again has such a distinctive sound.

Oh man that sounds terrible. I hope that the situation resolves itself soon! No I don't play a Muramatsu. I would love a platinum clad Mur. They are fantastic flute. My flute is a professional Haynes and the only gold is a 16 karat riser on the lip plate. You sound like you have an interesting background. Let me know if I can make a video on something you are having trouble with.

The only thing I am having trouble with is people’s failure to comply the laws and publishing fake news reports and acting out in violence and generalized lying of and FINANCIAL FRAUD FROM THE FLUTE CENTER OF NEW YORK AND THE FLUTE WORLD... My family wrote the music Mozart and Bach are my Grandpa’s. Forcing people to suffer for profit. Peoples lives and finances aren’t a game. From the research 3/5 the constitutional provisions states that slaves were counted as a child of God. It’s a tritone and augmented fourth. Descendant of founding fathers of the country Bach Mozart and King James. I need my flute replaced. I need people to comply with laws. The research is pertains to the US Constitution and the subsequent study of the flute. There’s so much that can be done in reference to academic studies. The laws need to be complied with. This is not a joke as it is tied to our family’s religion and the wealth of the nation. I have 10 PhD’s this is not a middle school band game. It’s a balancing act of bad online and bad offline behavior. I need help with getting the insurance company to pay out the money required to replace a stolen flute after financial fraud was committed on my bank account by the Flute Center of New York. The Flute World and Sheet Music Plus. This is after it was reported to the police. Given I have PhD in law. That’s above a JD #typical lawyer. Plus the stalking and false allegations and the kidnappings through the legal system through use of false allegation. Stop harassing my family. I am an adult. The needs to be total compliance with the laws. This behavior is treason against the United States of America. This not a middle school game. Those are my problems. Your videos are pretty correct. I had seen on the flute center of New York a banner posted saying you played on a Haynes. We’re not friends. Bullying me is not acceptable. I am not a child. This is in reference to FCNY. Thanks for the videos.
