What does your channel name mean? I picked "Plant Based Bride" for my blog when I started it back in 2015 as I was starting the process of planning my vegan wedding and wanted to document it. I have been vegan for 8+ years and married since 2016!

A few fun facts: 1. Originally Quincy Morris was meant to be the protagonist. He was moved to a secondary character. 2. A female vampire was, in the working pages, going to be a second antagonist. This was changed, slightly, but won't spoil for you. 3. Contrary to most popular media, there are no reincarnations anywhere in the story. And Mina is much more interesting than people realize.

The original name for the vampire was going to be 'Count Wampire' - until Stoker met a person from Romania and heard about the name 'Dracula' which clearly was much, much better.

More fun facts about the book Dracula for you. Stoker mainly based his character of Dracula on Elizabeth Bathory, he only used Vlad Tepes for the name of his character, which Vlad was also known as Count Drakul, Drakul meaning son of the dragon. He turned Drakul into Dracula. Another fun fact was that Stoker was writing his book around the same time as Mary Shelley was writing Frankenstein and Robert Louis Stevenson was writing The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Shelley was the first to publish I believe. There's a book called The Bedside, Bathtub, & Armchair Companion to Dracula by Mark Dawidziak to give you more fun facts about the book, Stoker, the chapters of the book, and about how Dracula became an icon through many streams of media such as movies, TV, toys, and of course cereal. I recommend reading this book after reading Dracula. I wanted to add too that the only movie that gets close to being the most accurate portrayal of the book is Bram Stoker's Dracula that stars Keanu Reeves, Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder, and Cary Elwes. I hope you enjoy Dracula it is one of my favorite classics.

It's a delightful spooky read, but what I love most about it is that it's such an amazing snapshot of society at the close of the Victorian era, as the old clashed with the new--transportation, travel, communication, psychology, the New Woman movement, classism, immigration, even real estate. It's spooktacular! RIP to the rolling task list, but it does look great! 🦇 Have you heard of Dracula Daily? It's a really cool newsletter, essentially, that plays on one of the most fun elements of Dracula - the fact that the entire novel is epistolary, every entry is dated, so it's possible to send out segments and experience the book in real time. It's been huge over on Tumblr, and we've been getting live reactions, analyses, notes on Stoker using some... kind of negative tropes (Dracula is based on some fairly xenophobic and antisemitic tropes) but which can absolutely be reinterpreted in other ways, stuff like how in retrospect other elements were absolutely informed by Stoker's internalised homophobia/being closeted, views on how British and Irish people saw foreigners with all of the elements in Romania and the characters of Quincy Morris and Van Helsing (he REALLY liked Americans)... It's just been really, really fun. Giant book club. There was a New York Times article on it a few days back (although it did get some elements entertainingly wrong, like it wasn't so much Dracula himself that Tumblr got attached to, but Jonathan and later the rest of the characters). Anyway. Have fun reading it! Be mindful of the fact that it's 125 years old and, uh, was written by someone vaguely xenophobic and also wildly closeted! And enjoy the remainder of Spooky Season!
