Yes, the bamboo looks really nice. I do the same kind of pruning with my SUPER mature lilac bushes. Makes it look so much neater. Boise 7a and our nights are a bit frosty but not a hard one yet. Still have the hoses out. @ 1 pm right now and it's 60°. Going out to plant my new snowdrops.

We are getting down to the 40's now at night and the daytime highs are in the 70's. A very pleasant Fall so far.

I like the secret garden idea. In the east, some roofs have something called "snowbirds" attached to the roofs edge to slow down the snows falling all at once.....maybe something to research? (I've seen antique ones, at least)

Yes, there are a lot of those here on metal roofs too and they go all the way up the panels. Something to consider for sure. My brother is a roofing contractor so I should pick his brain on this.

Well it’s finally happening as we are at 26*F and I suspect hour before sunrise it will dive further. I’m not sure the fall veg under tunnels will survive. This has been the driest stretch into October that we’ve had and we are in drought and high fire in WI, Z5a. Good to harvest, but not if there’s sparks. I moved a few plants so far and soon dig up bulbs and plant garlic. Yes, the roses are doing great and sort of worries me because I think our winter will return this year after 2 year hiatus. We will warm up to 70s by weekend and seen snow forecasted for some mountain areas. Seems everyone’s weather is jumping around. The foxglove seem to Really like when they are and the lillies need to be moved out of there as they reach for sun and some are to short. The roosters snuck into the garden and it was so comical watching them walk down the aisles as if they were grocery shopping 😂-wish I had a video. I broke down and ordered a new leaf thrasher and compost tumbler. We had a thrasher and it burned out and never had a tumbler and I have high hopes to get faster compost and capture leachate to eliminate fertilizer cost. The mounds of wood chips should be turning into great humus and will be a great addition to. Your garden still is doing well! I wonder if glads would over winter here because I seen a couple small spikes, but the warm winter may have allowed that. And I also have a tree sucking the life out of nearby garden. And we have metal roof that piles up snow also and there and can only plant perennials and annuals there. There are snow stops, but we want the wet snow weight to slide off. Thanks for the tour as I’m sure it’s close to the last and know it will be here tonight.
