QUILMES
Tribu de origen Quichua, ocupaba el territorio de la antigua provincia Inca, en la zona de los Valles Calchaquíes (Tucumán), nombre derivado del cacique rebelde Calchaquí. Estos indios se alzaron contra los conquistadores españoles, episodio conocido como “guerras calchaquíes”. Luego de diversos enfrentamientos, el gobernador de Tucumán, Mercado y Villacorta invade el valle, reduciendo a los pueblos alzados que, diezmados por el hambre y el aislamiento, son desarraigados de sus cerros y repartidos a los Españoles.
Los Quilmes, uno de los grupos que opuso mas resistencia, fue trasladado a un escenario geográfico, totalmente opuesto al que estaban acostumbrados. Junto con ciento cincuenta familias de Alcalianos, escapados de Santiago del Estero, llegarán a pié a la zona del Plata.
En 1666 se crea la Reducción de la Exaltación de la Santa Cruz de los Kilmes.”Alrededor de la capilla original, estaban los humildes ranchos de barro y paja. La zona de influencia de la capilla se extendió a otros poblados, y contrariando lo dispuesto en el reglamento de la creación, fueron penetrando en la reducción otros pobladores no indígenas” (Rodríguez de Contardo-Rufini, 1987).
Hacia las postrimerías del siglo XVIII , se fueron agregando otras parcialidades indígenas. Los abusos, las enfermedades, los mestizajes y la miseria, contribuyeron a ir diezmando paulatinamente a la población originaria.
En 1784 la “Parroquia de Quilmes” se constituyó en “Partido de Quilmes” subdividido en seis cuarteles.
Paralelamente a ello, las costas quilmeñas eran escenario del tráfico negrero; a tal fin se construyeron galpones para alojar a los negros esclavos. Entre 1806 y 1807, las costas fueron lugar de conflicto durante el desembarco inglés. Interesante es recordar, que en las jornadas de mayo de 1810, fueron partícipes algunos vecinos quilmeños, quienes votaron por la destitución del Virrey.
Y así llegamos al 14 de agosto de 1812, año en que por decreto del Triunvirato, se dio por extinguida la reducción, “…por la misma se igualaba a los indios Quilmes con los demás ciudadanos, importante determinación que terminó con las restricciones que impedían el normal desarrollo del pueblo” (Craviotto, 1969). Fueron los ecos de la política revolucionaria de 1810.
Quilmes es el nombre de una de las más célebres parcialidades de la etnia pazioca (diaguita), parcialidad que habitaba el oeste de la actual provincia de Tucumán (Argentina). En su lengua, el cacán, kilme significa ‘entre cerros’.
