Honestly it's the dude that did all the programing for Doom. The game that single-handedly changed the industry standard of FPS that modern FPS games still follow to this day. He's the guy you want working for Oculus. If he could make a jury rigged 3d engine that will run on the average PC in 1993, he can start a revolution in the VR market today.

His presentations have come along way, he's gotten more confident and expressive, and his speech has improved, his speech impediment is almost unnoticeable. Rock on John!

Carmack's comments on audio and voice acting ( 39:16 to 41:16) was fascinating. Some of what he says goes stratospherically over my head, but his enthusiastic patter, curiosity, and mental nimbleness are rare joys. What will happen?

John Carmack is like the Groucho Marx of technical conferences- I find myself missing some of the jokes because by the time I'm done laughing at one, he's already told two more. Many ideas per minute.

probably the only speaker I can listen to at half speed and still enjoy the talk due to the density of ideas

It's much easier to introduce people to VR by selling all in one HMDs for $299, than making them buy $1000+ PC plus VR.

Lol feeling stupid yet? Tethered-only VR was an inherently doomed technological dead-end. 🤷 Thankfully John Carmack was less stupid than you lol.

Because Gear VR is $99 and requires a phone that 150 million people have and Oculus Rift / HTC Vive costs $800 and requires a powerful ~$800 PC that only a few million people have. Kind of like saying "why is Tesla so excited about the Model 3 when the Model S is so much better?"

mobile mobile... underpowered... can't do.... blah blah. Nobody cares (only cash greedy devs rushing to Gear VR like shovelware flocked to iPhone). Seriously, where's the real VR at? This isn't VR.
@Rambowjo28 жыл бұрын
John is honestly right in saying that if we can get mobile VR that is essentially just like PC VR, except with less power, then we can definitely have some killer apps on mobile that will help VR really take off and become something you're crazy to not have, as opposed to crazy to have, as is somewhat the case now, especially for PC VR.
@VR_Wizard8 жыл бұрын
VR on mobile shines in places where the pc can't go. If you sit on the back seat of a car for example and you wanna watch a 3D movie that's the only way to do it. I believe quick experiences for companies showing of some of their products to costumers is also an important field.

You can also press the "not interested" button on the homescreen. KZbin will then make it a lower priority to show it to you, and mostly show you the more popular stuff, or things you are more likely to watch.
