IPD adjustment, easy method, no fiddling while looking through the lenses. Just be careful not to touch your eye with the card as a paper cut would be very painful. Get a strip of card and cut a notch out for your nose, so it can be held close to your eyes. Now go to a mirror and hold the edge of the card in line with the centre of your pupil while your other eye is closed. Now close this eye and mark with a pen where the centre of your other pupil is. Now cut the end off the strip where you made the mark. Now if you hold the strip between your eyes the ends should be dead center with your pupils. Now hold your quest lenses to a light ( not sunlight ), and place your card strip between them. You can see the centre of the concentric circles and adjust the IPD slider so they precisely match your card. Now put a sticker on your IPD slider so you can easily readjust after others use it. I had tried measuring my IPD with a ruler, but this method is more accurate and showed my eye distance to be much closer than I thought. I'm finding your videos very helpful and I'm having lots of fun with my Quest. Cheers Matt

@@MetaverseAdventures I have my Quest just a few days, therefore my library is really small, most playtime with quest i have Pavlov Shack, before buying the quest i had a Rift S rented for a month and played a lot Asgards Wrath which i will continue on Quest via Oculus Link but i also want to try it via Virtual Desktop. Next Month i will buy Beat Saber for Quest which i think i will spend a lot of time with but also i have a few big titles on my "to do list" most of them PC VR Titles like Walking Dead, Half Life Alyx and more. Currently i am really happy to choose the Quest over the Rift S as the Freedom playing without Cable is just stepping up the so much for me, hope many PCVR Titles will be playable just fine via Virtual Desktop.

Great video. That VR Cover is out of stock but I found some other parts on Aliexpress. About 1/4th of the price and in my experience the quality of products like these is just a good, most western sellers get their stuff from the same Chinese factories anyway. If you search on Aliexpress for ' oculus quest' you get lots of Quest-comfort products for very low prices. When I receive my order (which often takes 2 weeks unfortunately) I will let you know how they are :)

FrankenQuest is the Stuff! Instant relief. I'm not sure, but I think the cloth cover is meant for the foam on the OG interface. That way you get two interfaces to swap between.

The cloth cover works on both the original and the pleather VRcover. It is nice material and a must for those who sweat a lot. Did you get too?
@ChrisRichardsonwtfgamer
@ChrisRichardsonwtfgamer 5 жыл бұрын
@@MetaverseAdventures You betcha.. Got my updated interface too. VR Cover included a letter saying they have a new pleather Quest cushion coming and we early backers will get a discount code. BTW... The stiff arms of the Deluxe Audio Strap make the weight distribution immediately apparent and speed up putting the headset on in the right position. I can't stress how much you need to try it if you use your Quest a lot. Quest 2 better have these things figured out. Oculus seemed to intentionally ignore these known aspects of VR comfort. Maybe not to step on 3rd party solution toes. But it's silly and dangerous to do that at this point if they want universal adoption.

Ipd distance is irrelevant in the quest. The Ipd slider is a killer feature, however, as you are able to simply 'focus' it in until you see clearly. Theres and Ipd sidequest app too, to assist you in focusing the quest. My Ipd is wide so I just max the slider out and it works ok.
@MetaverseAdventures
@MetaverseAdventures 5 жыл бұрын
Dave Cruickshank yeah mine is narrow and I just slide to the minimum. That said, my partner is 62.5 and it takes her a minute to dial in. She would like the value to make it faster. It is coming. In fact, it is already there if you use the Quest with StreamVR via something like Virtual Desktop.

Good tips - I think eventually I'll have my Quest sitting comfortably. As much as I love it - jeez it's not comfortable out of the box - I've got a 'Google Cardboard' style VR headset that I bought for $35 about 5 years ago that is supremely comfortable, so it isn't anything to do with cost. I don't know why they didn't just copy the Gear VR style - that's much softer and more comfortable on the head.

What size battery did you get? A 10,000mAh battery will give you another 4-6 hours on top of the Quest 2 so pretty decent game session. Also, a number of commenters pointed out that the Deluxe Audio Strap is on for $75 and is the best all around Quest mod for comfort. Hey. My issue is the original facial interface is really uncomfortable around my cheeks and eyes. I struggle to use for more than 20 min and end up with serious red lines 😁 I’m thinking the VR cover and the head strap may well be the way to go to alleviate the pressure. But persuading the other half of the need for more comfort in the alternative reality of the quest is like running uphill through treacle. I may have to look at finding some suitable neoprene material and see if I can sew some Velcro on. 😬 I have also had lots of issues with god rays but was unaware of any light leakage. Something I am going to investigate more thanks to you highlighting the potential cause - I would never have worked that out! 🎖

just wanted to say that those "values" of the slider position for 64 could be wrong and mostly are. the software is always connected to the slider because the viewports ingame changes the distance as per SDK. so software IPD adjustment is a must. now... if u want to set the software at 64mm is mostly on the full close slider. as shown on unity while you place the viewports into the game scene. (at least on my headset). btw the inner side of the lense is VERY clear so maybe they are acommodating the 58mm ppl into that lense leverage they have.

We have the same head, so thanks for the tips....I like the back foam piece. I ended up getting some face covers from VR Cover which took the ease off the front. The back of my head now gets some strain from the Quest strap after long usage so I just order a foam back head strap. We’ll see how it feels. Also, oddly, I have an extremely wide IDP so the max 71 setting is the clearest I can get.

I've tried some similar mods that you demonstrated here, and they do make the experience more comfortable. After fiddling with it for a while, I switched to the Vive DAS and it was a significant improvement. For anybody who is interested in getting a DAS, Microsoft is selling them new through an ebay listing for $75. There's still about 80 left at the discounted price, but even at $99 I think it's a worthwhile investment, especially if you're using the Quest to demo VR to friends or family, because the size adjustment is so much better and faster than dinking around with the velcro straps on the Quest, and after you figure the price of a thicker VR cover, additional fabric straps, and a pair of headphones, you're getting awfully close to the cost of the DAS. Discounted ebay link: www.ebay.com/itm/HTC-Vive-Deluxe-Audio-Strap/264316510818

Evolvegan you could get a thicker facial interface like VR Cover or similar so that your face is further from the lenses and that fabric. Downside is a smaller FOV but you only need like a mm - 1/16” so very minimal effect on FOV. I guess you could also cut a hole in the fabric carefully. There is a tear down of the Quest on medium if you search and you can see what is behind the cloth including the silent fan. I wish you luck as that must be crazy annoying. Hopefully Quest 2 will come in various sizes and or more adjustments.

Not perfect, but better than most other HMDs. If not light leak is there something on the lenses? In terms of light leak, it is not as easy to deal with as finding the leaks is difficult. I found the best way was to go to a bright window or have bright light in the room and wear with the quest off. Should be pitch black. If you are getting light leak from anywhere it will be very obvious in this state. Even nose light leak causes rings.

In my case, the VrCover didn't want to play nice with the Oculus glasses spacer. It's secure at the top but the bottom (where the nose is) doesn't "click in" and stay in place. If you push it down with your thumb, it clicks in, but remove the pressure and it un-clicks and becomes loose. That leads to light leak inside the headset from the nose area. As you said, you might not need the glasses spacer, especially with the thicker VrCover but I use the slimmer one and didn't want to take any chances. So I removed the glasses spacer, and I'm using the 3D printed plastic "rings" around the lenses from Thingiverse (www.thingiverse.com/thing:3653631). They are thicker (think "higher") than the originals so the only thing your glasses will hit is plastic. I'm planning to get prescription lenses and I won't want to scratch those!

@@MetaverseAdventures What helps with light leak around the nose is a small thin rubber "nose guard' that came with the AMVR grips. You can see it on the right of this pic, between the lens protector and the grips. Have you played around with were it is placed on your face? Sometimes even 1 mm (1/32") can make a difference. Blurry means either your lenses are dirty which I am sure you cleaned, so it has got to be the placement. Oculus does not explain how to wear very well as most of the focus is on the IPD slider and little on moving it up and down. Next time you try the Quest, loosen the straps and just move up and down along with the IPD slider till it is crisp. You should be able to see pixels very clearly.

Metaverse Adventures The problem is that you don't hear about this issue, im the only one online being persistent about it the rest are just posts online that never got solved. Yes I have messed around with placed it differently on my face (spent over days doing this so it's not it lol) the lenses are not dirty I just bought this and got it new from amazon couple days back .. a guy named cinemonfilms on Reddit documents this issue very good .. it is defective if it's not the lenses or adjusting headset, what else could it be? Metaverse Adventures Nah man, oculus should send me double the money that I paid and I should be able to keep a working one. Unfortunately the people online that did report this never were persistent about the issue and the problem never got resolved in either cases. Absolutely ridiculous because I understand that adjusting the hmd and iPd can be tricky to some but not to someone who's dedicated all his time everyday to figure it out like a fucking investigation. I'm angry and I hope once I can prove and officially confirm with oculus that it's the unit is bad, i am going to make a post telling people they need to make that problem public and KNOWN. FFS man I spent $500 for what? Now it's just sitting there on my desk until the replacement comes in. I cannot believe how absurd this whole thing is and then to top it off I can't get over people not making it a public and known issue when it's clear people are having the SAME problem as me.

I look forward to hearing the results of the replacement. It is possible that your face shape or some other factor is the cause. That, or you really have a big defect like the screens are not snapped into the right spot the lenses are focused on. Let’s hope a bad unit and the replacement is solid as the Quest really is a lot of fun. I have a Valve Index too and despite have a much bigger FOV, due to my face shape it is about the same as the Quest. Sucks, but until the industry starts making sizes, I think we are all stuck with one size sort of fits all
