Just a heads up, once you've installed sidequest tv on the headset you no longer need to sideload your apks. To install apks go into the quest browser and open the store or site that has the apk on it (apkmirror etc) then download the apk as you would (but now you're downloading to the quest not sidequest) now go to unknown sources, open sidequest tv then go into settings and make sure you tick the box to show system files, once that's ticked go back to apps and scroll down until you find the files app, click that and you should see the apk you just downloaded. Click on that apk and it will proceed to install. Once installed it can be found in sidequest tv like the other apps that you may have sideloaded. Thanks for this video though, it got me all set up with 3rd party apks.

I sideloaded X-Plore to my headset a while ago and it's great for wireless file transering so I don't need to plug into my pc. It seems a lot easier now then it was then.

First, many thanks for taking the time to do this tutorial, as a 67 year old pensioner I appreciate it. I am a fan of a game on my Gear called Slightly Heroes and I am trying to get it to work on my Quest ... Any advice? So far all I can get is the loading screen.

Not all GearVR/Go games will work when sideloaded to Quest. Try rebooting your headset but if it doesnt load after that then you're out of luck I'm afraid. Hopefully we'll get an official port. 🤞

Solved! Anyone with trouble connecting your headset to your computer... Here is my solve... Cables: USB-A cables are either USB-A 2.0 or USB-A 3.0. Make sure you get a 3.0 or higher version because they transfer data. USB 2.0 only charge. Dev mode on & off: Even after getting a USB-A3.0 to USB-C my headset wasn't connecting to my computer. This was what I did to overcome the issue... Rebooted my headset> Reconnected headset to phone> reset dev mode> Plugged in headset to PC> saw no prompt> went onto Oculus app> turned dev mode off> turned dev mode on> went back into headset and saw prompt.

I looked at your post and thought. Will not the use of SideQuest simplify the process of viewing content from a USB disk? Now I am using the Oculus TV bundle - EZ Explorer - JS USB - Moon Player. This is not very convenient, and besides, after watching each clip, you have to return to the menu, since the Moon Player does not understand the USB disk files. Are there other Android applications that you can use for this viewing BP180 / 360?

Works on Ubuntu like a charm. Made a desktop file so I can just double click the application. Local per user settings are stored in ~/.config/SideQuest along with the song files and beat maps so you can move the application to a root folder, such as /opt/ or /usr/local/share/.

@@RaMarcus The only issue I have is sometimes if the info file is in the old json format SideQuest will not convert it automatically. When this happens I can manually convert the song using songe-converter and place all the files into a song folder. I then edit the new info.dat removing any spaces in the file name plus I name the image file cover.jpg and the audio file song.ogg. Once I reload SideQuest the new songs populate and load onto the Quest. I've download beat map zip files from other sites and was able to do the same thing, so we are not limited to Beast Saber!!!

first i clicked allow files to be seen on this device from within the quest, then after i enabled developer mode on the quest it stopped showing the files when i plugged it into the computer and continued to not show up in >adb devices list. (i had adb installed alreaddy on my pc) sidequest gives the message "Disconnected: connect/reconnect your headset via USB - Setup" (orange circle) "Setup" is blue like a hyperlink but i cant click it. the quest appears in my computer in win7 but there are no files in it like 5m ago edit: not sure i fixed but in apparently windows 7 you need to manually download and install oculus Go ADB drivers from Device Manager. This could have been fixed with 1 line of code, but apparently Oculus is too lazy to do that.

You can't open ABD files on mac. But you can open SideQuest by going into settings then security and privacy then click on general, then click on SideQuest then look back at your settings tab and you'll see something that says allow untrusted developer then click allow. I'm still trying to figure out how to install the .inf file.

Would the same apply to the Gear VR? I'm assuming it's virtually the same as the Go except what' seems to be a little more polished.i on the Samsung Gear VR side.I have a Note 9 and running on the Gear VR is super smooth and I would love to get into the whole Dev sideloading. I have 2 of the Gear VR controllers and I'm curious will they both work. If so will having a L and a R Gear controller allow for a closer to PC based VR experience.That is of course without 6 axis but rather 3 axis of movement? Any sugestions for games that would greatly benefit using the sideload dev option along with 2 Gear VR controllers ;) Assuming this works even tho I saw a video where a Go user bluetooth enabled 2 Go controllers, im assuming this person was within the DeV mode in the Oculus App. CHEERS Any guidance or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Sideloading on a GearVR is different, you don't need this process. Just enable app installs from unknown sources and install any apks you like. But it sounds like you're referring to playing PCVR games? If you have a VR ready PC then sure, give it a go, download ALVR and try it. Vridge does allow you to set up more controllers but I've never tried multiple Gear controllers.

I've covered Vridge and ALVR is pretty much the same. Works a little better for some but the controls don't work as well. It'll all improve over time though. 👍

John carmack himself mentioned it that the quest should be better at streaming once they push an official 60hz mode. Also. We're you using the official Alvr for the quest ? have your cable connected and then on your phone try turning the developer mode off and on and you should hear it make a sound, the sidequest tells you put your headset on if you have the app running, put the headset on and you should see it saying except. Give that a try, it worked for me

Would the warranty on the headset not work anymore if you sideload anything on quest? Also if you want to, can you undo the developer mode to go back to the original form of the Oculus Quest? Sorry another question what happens when Oculus releases a patch or software update for the system? Does the sidequest app not work then?

Sideloading doesn't affect warranty, as its an official feature. Yes you can turn off developer mode. Yes they release patches and app is fine, SideQuest hasn't been through a Quest update yet so we'll have to see, but should be fine and if there are issues the dev for it will update I'm sure.

I side-loaded my Oculus go three different times it worked great I loved it then all of a sudden my Oculus go would not turn on and I had to master reset it I'm scared to to sideload it again along with my quest should I take the chance? Unfortunately you can't, it was always the same on the Go as well. I guess so you know someone is watching. It would be nice to have an option to turn it off.

@@RaMarcus well thats ridiculous really. I mean in order for someone to watch you play the person IN the headset has to allow it so ofcourse you know its being streamed for others to watch. Plus how about a pop up window that says "you are being watched or recorded by others and are no longer private" then you click the box that says "I understand" and it goes away. So many options they could of come up with. I was so excited to cast to my phone so I could see and help 1st time VR users but that red dot kills the immersion!

Yes I did. And it's not really but it depends what you sideload as some things won't show up in unknown sources and you'll need an app like that to start them.

@@pillamiesta He I am busy man :). Ok, if you don't have a Viveport subscription you can sub for a one month free trial at Viveport.com. Than you install Alvr with this Sidequest as shown in the video. If you start Alvr on your Quest it automatically starts Steam VR home. Over there you'll find a tab Viveport, you click on it wait a few seconds and can take your pick from 700 games. Enjoy!

First off, excellent tutorial, saved me a metric shit ton of time, BUT I have one issue, I'm trying to get my file explorer to display in full screen, like it pops up, but only the left upper side of the screen. I can scroll down but not far enough down and over to reach the accept button for terms and conditions, is there a way to change the aspect ratio of 2d apps? I'm using a GO btw

Reboot your system? You should be able to connect it then boot sidequest and it'll appear. Let me know if you can't get it work as I'm interested in any bugs to let others know. 😉👍

Great video, works great!! I sideloaded Hulu onto my Quest, the only issue is that Hulu needs location services turned on. Is there a way to do this with the Quest, I cannot find it anywhere. Thanks

If you use the SideQuest app on your Quest you can access the Android settings of the headset. But the headset doesn't have a GPS so not sure if that woukd help. Have you tried the Hulu app from the Oculus Go?

I have restartet mine mulitple times, and enabled/disabled developer mode on the app. When I plug the usb from my Oculus Quest to my computer, it's not doing anything... SideQuest won't connect to it at all. The only thing that works, is when I disable Developer Mode on the app, then I'm able to open the files my Quest has... Nothing else works, and I have searched everywhere on the internet, and nothing works for me... I really don't know what to do know, I'm so frustrated... I just want to play custom songs :'((

It won't let me download the ADB Drivers. I agree to the terms of use and and it allows me to click the download button. I would click the download button button nothing would happen, doesn't even go to a different tab

So even after installing the debugging on the GO you STILL have to transfer apps from a computer??? You can't just go to whatever site in the GO and install that way?

I actually have found a way. I also have been watching live TV in VR. I've built my own app store and you just sideload it and then within it you can install the apps it has. I'll be making one especially for VR soon.

Go back to the set up section in Sidequest, scroll down and install the SideQuest launcher.

Help i have an oculus go and when i put it on all i see is a message saying to get the oculus app and nothing else so is there a way that i can set it up using side loading from my laptop. I installed it on my phone and it went well untill it wanted my internet password for the oculus go. It would not accept it no matter how many times i tryed so my inlaw also tryed with his phone and the same thing happend with him so i am going to go to my brothers next sunday and try again using there internet. and hope it works.

Just got my Quest thanks for all your videos including this one!! I have downloaded the latest version of side quest but can’t see all I see in the video on my Mac Version. Is it limited because it’s a Mac!? As I can’t see the sub section that is android apps etc. Thanks again!! :)

My thought process without upgrading to a Quest there may be a way I can sideload apks to my go for an ‘unofficial’ upgrade. More sports games would be handy I.e. tennis or football. Can’t believe there isn’t a proper tennis game for the Go yet as it seems like the perfect platform for it. A wii sports package would have seemed like a good launch title but I can imagine they would like keep that sort of thing for the quest.

I don't know for sure, as I've not tried it. But that sort of thing used to work on the Oculus Go. I'll take a look when I get a chance. 👍

You need to reconnect to SideQuest and load the new versions. SideQuest has the new version. 👍

nah. its built into the system with the whole sideloading thing. and its running android and android has had this for a long time.

Ive installed sidequest, installed adb driver, enabled developer mode, restarted Go, but it wont connect. The allow debugging doesnt show in my Go. What am I forgetting here?

@@RaMarcus It doesnt show under This PC, but it did before I tried this. Windows makes a sound when I plug in, and it charges just fine. I actually got SideQuest working just fine a few days ago, but tried to revert back to normal. Maybe I botched something trying to do that. Do you know how I might uninstall properly (from PC and GO) to start fresh? I can uninstall the ADB driver and delete the files for SideQuest but I dont know how to remove sidequest from the Go.
