These kids are lucky to be able to try this at such a young age. Its amazing to think that by the time they grow up, things like this will be a part of ever day life like the television or radio. A really great job here! Using the Hydra like this was pretty genius:)

so THAT's why positional tracking is needed..I see now. Had a hard time imagining why its so wanted. Thanks for the vid.

That is so badass. Actually leaning forward and looking out a window?! I never thought this would be around even this time last year. I thought VR was impossible.

Thanks, Oculus wanted to get their toys in developer's hands now instead of next year, so personally I'm glad not to have to wait. There are lots of ways to solve the tracking problem each with their own pros and cons. Magnetic works because I'm only using the position in a relatively confined space and I'm already wired up with the headset. It's not the only or best way to go for all uses.

I believe it is. I was at GDC during one of their talks and they kept mentioning how this was something they had to add and work on. I think they realize how important it is.

Sixense have just released an Hydra Hands for Unity. It allows you to animate the fingers. Definitely looking forward to your tutorial regarding utilising the Hydra to incorporate spatial head tracking.

Imagine this combined with the new Kinect technology to allow your hands and body to be placed into the game world with 1:1 movement. We are on the verge of something magical.

No but Oculus has said the will support this type of thing in the consumer version. There is an amazing Tuscany demo version that Sixsense is putting out that lets you interact with the objects and burn things, which does use the Hydra.

can't friggin wait for the consumer version! will definitely buy for 300 bucks with a motion control like hydra (hopefully they will have a newer better one by then). by the way, the hydra controller is only $80 on amazon, but some idiot seller is hawking the oculus dev kit for almost 3 grant

I will am getting a tutorial together to explain all of that. It was not hard to offset the camera location with the hydra data, but it has its limitations. Don't expect to be able to tack this on to existing games, I was able to do this because Oculus provided the source code to their demo.

exactly what i was thinking , you would be able to pick stuff up and i think it will work with the current physx system now in games such as halflife, i can really see it happening...

Yeah, it natively supports the razer hydra controllers. You probably have to change the hydra controller settings to automatically move body position on the y and z axis.

Is there RIFT + HYDRA + KINECT demo? kinect could bring your body into the space, and allow limb interactions and so forth - seems like this combo would be essential for VR simulation Triple threat VR!

The oculus rift does not have it right now because they are still determining what to use and how to use it. This is also just a developer version. Final version will have movement tracking, don't worry.

This. is. awesome. Perfect. The one biggest flaw of the Oculus Developer Kit, IMO, is solved with what you've done here. Have you refined it enough that it "feels" authentic yet? Will you be sharing this soon?

yeah but ive allready watched all of the videos of OR and they said they still cant confirm it but theyre looking into possible solutions for pos tracking aswell, but as i said i dont think its 100% confirmed to go with the final product..game developers are still experimenting with it.

Hi Tony, not sure if I posted this in the correct spot so if you see this twice, sorry. I'm having problems getting the current demo to work. I downloaded the compiled version off of RoadtoVR and I've put the two sixense.dll files in the folder with it, but I can't figure out where to put the tuscany assets and I keep getting a "File Load Failed" error. I was wondering if you had released an updated version of your hydraheadtracker for the tuscany demo yet, and if so where I could get it.

The old crt-screen didnt need high resolution since they where smaller and so, old crt screen is actually much much better then the new flat-monitors, every new flat monitor sucks, they are lagy and have no colour. But the TV are really good, why the new flat monitors are really bad when tv are good, I dont know.
