Not from Luffy, Shanks or Whitebeard doing something that may topple them, but it may trigger Imu to get interested and the world they happily rule gets wrecked. If she is that OP, of course. The Gorosei are immortal because of the Garden of Eden (where Imu is residing) They've created it using the Eve tree - Marie Jois sits directly on top of the tree's crown. (On fishman island they said that the tree was so tall, they have never seen the top/crown of it.) Everyone on Marie Jois probably ages slower due to it. They "live forever". That's why they are gods. (Oda also hints at this in Gedatsu's cover story). There are two kinds of Celestial Dragons. 1. The OGs (like Gorosei) 2. Those who were born in Marie Jois over time. The second group - who are born into that life - probably have absolutely no clue. They don't even know that their prolonged life comes from the Eve Tree. They are morons so they are being kept in the dark and in control. They are told they live long because they are Gods. And they're told "you shouldn't breath the same air as filthy humans" but it's actually ensuring that they keep breathing air form Marie Jois' atmosphere, wherever they go. But the Gorosei (and OG Celestials, I suppose) still wanted _true_ immortality. That was the government scientists' job in the laboratories on God Valley: create the "God Fruit" that grants immortality. That's what Xebec was after. (And this is just a fun guess of mine but the God Fruit might also be Captain John's treasure) I don't know if the Gorosei were there or not. I just know Donquixote Homing was there. That's why he declared that he was human and left Marie Jois shortly after the God Valley incident. He learned one of the World's secrets: The Celestials are _not_ Gods. And they are not immortal. They are just privileged humans. The reason Homing left Marie Jois was because he learned he was human. Now this is just speculation on my part but imo there's a good chance the Eve tree is the "ridiculous power source" that the ancient kingdom used to have. Vegapunk's dream "free energy available to all" might go directly against the WG/Imu+Gorosei just how Luffy's dream will probably ideologically directly oppose them. And one of the biggest things that the Gorosei are hiding from the Void Century is that they stole the energy from the world for themselves.

Actually not a bad idea! Reframing those scenes that way would make for some sick retroactive character building for both the Goro-sei and Im-sama, if it's done correctly. Oda really doesn't need to revise anything to make it work. No hokey flashback reveal scenes with added 'Im content'. All that's required is a few elegant lines of implication and the Goro-sei's past fears will all be recontextualised, and reveal Im as a singularly paranoid and psychotic villain to root against.

I always believed the Gorosei are THEM. Saturn is scarred. Gandhi keeps a Kitetsu blade. Big Sanji looking dude is muscular. I fully believe that if it comes down to it, they and Imu can throweth them hands. Plus the 1075 cover makes me think they are immortal/eternally young. When Saturn meets Luffy, I expect a small clash that will see Saturn hoeing Luffy. This is why they got rid of the guards when Shanks pulled up. They didn't need them. Gorosei Level will be the next Level of powerscaling. They are possibly beneficiaries of Void Century technology and techniques that fill in the gap. I don't think the gap is that large though. They aren't lowdiffing the top tiers one on one. Alot of the fear is in regards to the political ramifications of a Shanks/WB team up, reveals that will turn the tide. If the world turns against them, it makes them vulnerable as it would anyone. But they aren't slouches. As we prepare for the Throne War, We need characters that can stand against Luffy's alliance and create stakes. Imu, The Gorosei, The Admirals, and the mature Serephim will be among them, standing as strong as Luffy, Dragon, the Revolutionary Army, The Grand Fleet, Wano, Fishman Island, etc. They will be capable.

I never thought of or even liked the idea of them being powerful battle-wise, they are clearly a purely political organization. Unlike the Kage in Naruto or the Zodiac in HxH, which are presented from the get-go to be inmensely powerful or at least insanely skilled, the Gorosei are always portrayed in the light of a much more realistic group of politicians, sitting in comfy chairs in a pristine room talking about the state of the world. Samurai Ghandi has a sword and a mean look, yes, but that could be because he is a representative of Wano, or he was a great war time general, but I dont think he or any of them need to be powerful. Also this is extremely headcannon but their looks always gave me this impression: Sanji's Uncle - Finance/ Economist Samurai Ghandi - Military Commander Ganfall's Brother - Historian Mustache Gorbachov - International Relations Saint Jay Garcia Saturn - Resource Administrator / Syndicate Manager (kinda like the one who administrates the different factions of the WG, makes sense since his appearance in the lastest chapters)

if you look back at VegaPunks cover stories you notice that he has a knack for making things that look like weapons but actually aren't (i.e. gunpowder that shoots flowers). Im thinking that the Gorosei tried to destroy Lulusia Kingdom for Imu and it didnt actually kill anyone. Which now explains why they need to kill VP all of a sudden. Now imagine that blunder and add the fact that Imu told them to get Vivi and they couldnt do that one as well and she was in their freaking neighborhood. Looking at it from that point of view its no wonder the Gorosei have to do things themselves bcuz they are looking real bad to their boss right? I think that's why they are finally showing up. Otherwise how could they have Kizaru go from Marineford to Mariejois and pick up Saturn and already be nearing Egghead at the same freaking time as things happening on Egghead. I think it does not matter how strong they are. They could be stronger than the Yonko's and still not take direct action. For instance, IM might have some sort of divination ability, as they consult it to remove someone's light from history. My immediate guess is that IM is attuned to the will and destiny of people through time, and the Gorosei might be fated to die by some of those wills, as seen by IM. Being immortal, IM and Gorosei would not risk dying from a fated encounter, so they dictate and control everything from on high, using the marines/wg as its pawns to remove those fated individuals, or seeking out the recepticle of those wills to contain it, such as the gomu gomu no mi.

@@Sertifi No idea why Shanks is doing anything, but if I were to guess, shanks either believes or knows that Nika/joy boy, aka Luffy is the one who is destined to shake up the world. It is heavily hinted that Shanks had designs revolving around Nika since he stole the Gomu gomu no mi. One piece seems to revolve around destiny, Shanks if anything is just steering the world in that direction, not taking part because he either knows or believes it is not his job to rectify the errors of the past. Which makes black beards role very interesting, he might be an anomaly, someone who should not exist, who can disrupt what is destined to pass, as Shanks only ever expressed concerns about one person, which is BB. So in short, if Shanks believe that Nika, or Luffy will bring down the WG, it is not his job to interfere, nor could he. What he IS doing is allowing destiny to take its course, BB could be someone that has the power to prevent that. (presumably through the yami yami no mi and BB's unique constitution) But that's my wild guess. I'd be suprised if I were anywhere close to correct.

The Gorosei make plays to keep the world in check. They have 20 kingdoms give or take under their wing lol. The Gorosei understand pirates are just 1 faction in the world they over rule. I'm pretty sure when they're sweating about what this pirate or that pirate is doing is how it will affect their pawns aka the civilians of the 20 Kingdoms they rule. They really only have one direct opposition at the moment and that is Monkey D. Dragon who is about to start a war with the World Government/Celestial Dragons. Even when Dragon stopped Smoker, Dragon stated that the world is waiting for his/the revolutionary army's answer. The only thing I can make sense of why the Gorosei might even be slightly worried about what the Pirates are doing is how it affects the kingdoms and civilians they rule over because in One Piece a majority of pirates are just pirates who are portrayed as bad guys. If civilians think of pirates as bad guys and pirates are forming alliances etc civilians and those from kingdoms become worried and restless and scared they might be over ruled by Pirates and they don't want to be involved with "bad guys". Also the Gorosei have ruled over the 20 Kingdoms through lies for about 800-900 years. Everyone believes that the empty throne in Mary Geoise has been empty for 900 years or more as way to show that the 20 Kingdoms are all equal amongst one another which is a huge lie due to Sabo finding out that Imu sits in that throne. The Gorosei do not want anyone knowing that information and went so far as to destroy a whole island that Sabo may have been on in order to keep that information hush. Also I'm not even sure if Imu is the one who destroyed Lulusia because the Gorosei asked Imu what light should be extinguished as if the Gorosei themselves were the ones responsible for that particular erasure and not Imu, just for Imu to tell them what should be erased. We have no clue how old the Gorosei are but in chapter 1037 we can speculate that they were either there since the beginning of the creation of the World Government or sometime after because they mention that Luffy's fruit awakening hasn't happened for centuries (not sure how many centuries and how the Gorosei know of that fruit's awakening is another mystery). Also the Gorosei mention that Luffy's fruit awakening is only a Legend even to the Gorosei so they may have heard at a time Luffy's fruit was awakened but maybe not alive during that time.

The way I see it, considering the parallels between Doflamingo and his squad bowing down to him, and Enel and his squad bowing down to him, I would expect Imu squad to be the strongest out of the bunch. We're overthinking this. The Gorosei are alive and don't appear to age due to the OP-OP Fruit's secondary ability of Immortality. It's why there is a massive bounty upon it. The Gorosei are sweating because all they do is set around and plot and scheme and their "plans" might be disrupted by aberrant behavior from the set pieces. They're not afraid of shanks during their meeting because 1. Shanks isn't of the temperament to attack them during a called meeting and 2. shanks wouldn't throw away the lives of those close to him. These guys can orbital strike anywhere reasonably speaking it's goofy to try and merc them without a detailed multifaceted plan. Most likely their scars are caused by some interaction with the rocks pirates, you can't tell me the Rocks Pirates didn't scratch these old fogies during their crusade. So, I don't think they're strong just well connected. They've the resources to collect the nicest stuff the world has to offer, IE the sword and op-op hookup. ======================= In the unlikely case they are strong, they'd scale to other powerful old men most likely. AT MOST they'd probably be south of Old Rayleigh, which means they're under Kizaru. At this strength (along with the threat of the bustercall etc ) they might be scary to a solo Luffy against the force of them being greater than the sum of the parts. Giving them anymore credit is saying that in their prime they were stronger than Dark King Rayleigh and I don't think that's on the table. We'd of heard about them, and the team up at godvalley woudn't of been needed to kill xebec.

I don't know. Oda wants to write the story in a strength goes up as the arcs progress sense. Not sure how that plays out. Also think it is significant that the Gorosei are the planets to go alongisde the idea of the ancient weapons being the three far more recently discovered planets. Also there are five main strawhats. Blackbeard had five crewmembers on Jiya / things just line up. For the record : Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji. Blackbeard, Burgess, Doc Q, Lafitte, and Augur. The Gorosei : Saturn, Mars, Jupiter, Mercury, Venus. Blackbeard does have Stronger but not sure how that counts into the crew numerically.

The Ghandi Gorosei wielding the Shodai kitetsu does mean he is pretty strong since its a cursed blade with probably a very strong curse since its the first of the kitetsu series. I dont think it makes sense for fodder to be immune to the curse of a supreme grade cursed blade.

These guys are named after planets just like the Ancient Weapons. These old dudes are probably the ones that managed to counter the Ancient Weapons 800 years ago, and win the war. I bet Imu made them Immortal as a reward for defeating JoyBoy and the Ancient Weapons. I don't know what it is. But when Shanks came up to the Gorosei he said he wanted to discuss a certain pirate. But we don't know whether he came to discuss BlackBeard who is likely up to some world conquest or Luffy who just wants to be king of the Pirates. Everyone thinks they have it figured out. The gorosei could be going to negotiate with Luffy because they fear blackbeard. Blackbeard is the one to really fear because he isn't simple minded like Luffy and Oda has been hyping up blackbeards crew since before Impel down. Dude is calling himself commodore and collecting captains like Pokemon.

7:52 at the end of the day, the gorousei tries to make everything stable. Shanks hide his ambitions very well behind the "nice guy" persona. Maybe the know that when the world is extremely unstable, more people like Luffy, Kid, Law and even Rocks appear to change the status quo they are trying to maintain. This would explain them paying for vegapunk projects until they knew that his experiments had the ultimate goal to bring free knowledge to everyone. 9:40 the problem with this theory is that it would make things even more chaotic. In the one piece world, most people believes that the marines are there for justice and protection, so the world government needs the overall population to believe this. If everyone knew that there's even stronger people controlling the marines and doing whatever they want, then this would push even more people to become pirates or fight for someone like Dragon. It's in their own interest to keep controlling things behind the curtains until there's no more alternatives.

The sweats can be explained because the elders balue the balance of the 3 big powers. Because if it came out of balance they will have to do another cleanse. where they go out and annialiate everyone The admirals are their strongest fighting force. The elders are not frontliners they are the secret gate keepers of imu. they are the ones who clean up everything if the worlds doesnt go imus way. The admirals are their to be the front face to maintain balance. Kinda like AOT Where they have the strongest soldiers on paper as the survey corps. But the royalty actually have more than enough power to push back the titants if the soldiers fail

the gorosei sweating the meetup was more so them worrying about the repercussions around the world, not about their own safety. they have those reactions because they know how easily the yonko and people in that tier of influence and strength can shake the world and have ripple effects through their actions

I don't agree on the premise that because CP0 and the Admirals exist that they need protection. By that same premise, Sengoku as the fleet admiral would be less powerful based on the powerful nature of the Admirals. If anything, commanding such power makes me, in turn, believe that they could have comparable or even greater power at least. While you may be on to something about specialized abilities, I could very much see that being possible. Akin to a pirate crew, not every member is a behemoth beast, some are very specialized with the type of abilities that they have but all of them will likely need to be feared greatly. But at least 3 of those guys are gonna have some immense strength and battle accumine, no doubt.

I think they have some strength, but I doubt it's much. It really doesn't make much sense in the grand scheme of things if these guys were all Commander level or above. Because what in the hell would the World Government/Celestial Dragons have to fear? Especially back in the day before Roger where there seemingly weren't multiple Yonko tier characters in the world. Like why don't they control every part of the world? And why don't potential threats like the Yonko get instantly bodied before they even get to the height of their power? Because if the Gorosei are busters, and the Marines also have the Admirals, they should have the ability to do so. Like Big Mom was clearly a problem as a girl, why wasn't she stopped? Kaido was captured many times, why wasn't he killed? It makes sense that the Yonko lived to become Yonko when the Admirals were the only thing that could have stopped them since the World Government didn't have the Warlord system yet, since only 3 or so Admiral tier characters isn't enough to check or stop every threat. But if these guys were essentially equal to the Warlords, or stronger, then that idea kind of goes out the window.

To be honest, I think the Eternal life Surgery doesn't make you completely immortal, but partially instead. Something more like giving you infinite regeneration, or not being able to age but you could die because of an Haki-based attack.

Maybe they sweat at certain events not because of what the situation entails, but because one of them has crazy future sight and those specific events changed from what was seen. Maybe shanks is changing the future with his own future sight. What if luffy was supposed to die by that sea king, and that lined up with the future the gorosie saw. However shanks decided to save luffy to change the grim future he saw as well. Now luffy has been making such massive changes everywhere he goes. I think when shanks said he bet his arm on the future (or whatever) he meant it literally..

I think the Gorosei could be sort of "the Admirals" of the WG, since technically the WG and the Navy are separate organizations. And possibly that's why the Admirals are seen publicly as the best defense of the WG. The public don't even know things like Cipher Pol exists, so what's to say the Gorosei are the secret "Admirals" of the WG. I also think its possible that each one of them were top agents of there time like Lucci is now, and were chosen by Imu to be Bodyguards/ commanders for him and possibly given Immortality whether its directly from an ability Imu has or from the eternal youth surgery. So each one of them is from a different generation in the WG's past and were chosen as the best of the best. Now what does this say for there strength? Idk I think they are at least on par with some high commanders or up, I think the simple fact that one is venturing out on his own to an island where a yonko that just beat Kaido is "running wild" (as they probably think) proves he either has massive balls or is confident enough strength wise to hold his own. I know he has some WG agents and Kizaru with him, but Kizaru will not be enough on his own to protect him from all the enemies on Egghead, as he will have his hands full, presumably, with Luffy. Unless he is just following along to oversee the mission and make sure VP dies, and he probably wants to try and take out Luffy while he's at it. Maybe he just plans to stay on the ship far from shore.
