My future wife and I saw these guys in 1977. This was our wedding song. 44 years later, she’s still the Chick of My Dreams and we’re still moving and grooving slo beat style. My grandkids say, Papa and Memaw knew how to get down! We’re both 70 plus , still in love

In those days, the standard (expectation) was very high for bands and the product they put out. You would be hard-pressed to name a band that wasn't great...regardless of the genre.

The first time I've seen this group perform live was in Landover MD at the Capital Centre in 1976 right after their Live album was released. There was 22,000 people packed in that joint that night. They came out on stage without all the pyrotechnics like Earth Wind & Fire or P-Funk, They just had a banner behind them with their logo on it. All they did was picked up their instruments and JAMMED THEIR ASSES OFF FOR TWO AND A HALF HOURS!! When they played their biggest hit off that album "T.L.C." It was one gigantic party!! Those guys remembered that night so much. They appreciate all their fans all over the world but I truly believe that night they developed a special bond with Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia. I've seen them perform on more than 5 times when they come through the DC area and they NEVER EVER disappointed us. Flat out AWESOME BAND!!

Dude. AWB is a great band, no question. However, they are not even in the same league as Earth Wind and Fire or Funkadelic. Not even close. EWF and Funkadelic gave you a great performance because they could AND they were top notch musicians also. They did it all.

Steve Wayne we invented the Finkle piano but you wouldn't know anything about that because you sound white and you want to take credit for everything like you always have. The Average White Band just like white folks. Need black folks melanated people to even have a Groove. Why do you think they had one of us in their band because we made them and their music. Mimic at his best. I'm 59 years old and believe me I know the groove I played in high school band and concert band and we had our own band that we played at the nightclubs during the 70s...

Eliot Lewis spent 13 years with AWB (1989-2002) as the bass player/vocals before joining up with Daryl Hall & John Oates in 2003. He is the keyboard player/backing vocals for H&O, and has appeared on every episode of the very popular internet/TV show "Live From Daryl's House". Lewis has also had a very successful solo career outside of H&O and LFDH, touring the east coast, midwest, and Vegas over the last several years.

Back then it was very hard to find on vinyl or 8 tracks then cassette tapes. Only the hits would make it to the radio play lists. I respect this music and its makers. btinsley1 Great line-up! I was gonna put Boz too, but he really only has only a few "great cuts". He's similar to Bobby Caldwell in that reguard. Heatwave had lead vocalists who were of color so technically they would'nt qualify. I was thinking maybe Gino Vanelli to fill that heatwave slot?
@btinsley1
@btinsley1 10 жыл бұрын
Michael Bryant Boz had a great deal more"great cuts" that bobby. Everything on the Down Two Then Left album is superlative - technically better than Silk Degrees, but unacclaimed by the critics. "We're Waiting" shows off his upper register. The Middleman album has a rock edge to it - Simone is a good track off that, though is clearly NOT rock. As for gino? i can see that to a degree - People Gotta Move was a fav back in the 70s.

A few years ago my dad and I were chilling on my balcony listening to any artist he wanted to hear. He played this song asked me, "have you heard of this song before?" I said, "of course I have and I love it". He then asked me who the artist was and I was stuck, didn't know who the band was. The kicker was finding out it was a white band 😲😯😲😯😲🤣🤣🤣 with so much soul!
