This is a lot of fun. I can see this being a fun in-game experience. The characters stumble into a wild magic zone, and the first item(s) they touch transmute(s) into something magical. The players (with a DM limitation on power level) describe a whimsical magic item. This could be fun for temporary items that lose their enchantment within 24 hours, so it's a use it or lose it situation.
