hello topper, hope all is well, again, some very nice finds, i have that dark shadows lp and have always enjoyed it. i was a big fan of the show when it aired back in the 60s. i have a cd of francois hardy that contains a lot of her french hits from the 60s. i had heard of her and knew she was pretty popular in france back in the day and have always liked her voice. loved seeing that carole king and glen campbell lps, probaly two of the greatest talents in american popular music from the 60s and 70s, would love to come across these sometime. always fun to see what your latest finds are, very entertaining and i always learn new information about artists that i had not been familiar with before, thanks for sharing once again and stay well

rolling a joint while you held the blows against the empire album......i wondered if i was toking a pipe or puffing a doob when i first heard the blows album back in 1972. once a year i dust off and give it a spin on a turntable i have had since 1974, it still works, as said on an old firesign theater record if you remember them. lucky me, 65 and still, not one strand of grey hair, thanks dad!

Nice finds brother. Yeah, I was going to order that Starship record for the store, but I wasn't sure it would sell, and I already have a really nice original pressing. I love how you talked about grails and that Carole King record is now one of mine. One of the greatest songwriters ever. Excited by the Glen Campbell too, I've loved his music since I heard nine pound hammer when I was six. I found one of my grails too a few weeks back, Laura Nyros Smile. I had to hug it and squeal a little. Embarrassing but the owner understood. Didn't think I would ever own that one. Dark Shadows man, love finding weird soundtracks. Bought up but rarely listened to, works fine for me, I'll play them thank you very much. Great, great segment brother, had to laugh at times cause I was havin a ball. Merry Christmas and thanks

Awesome finds Topper. Heard you say "boxes of stuff" and reminded me of a place I visited in Terra Alta WV a few years back called Ball Outlet. When I was there they had loads of records in stacks and boxes -- many trashed, but some really nice 7" and 10" records. Looked deep enough and found some VG+/NM Capitol 7" EPs with original sleeves in wonderful condition and got another box full of stuff for cheap (I think $10 for about 75 records). Also found some lesser-known bands there like The Moments (NJ soul band, later called Ray, Goodman and Brown) and some funk/soul deep cuts. Really recommend if you're ever in that beautiful town or its surrounding areas! Not too far of a drive from Deep Creek.

I am quite happy with the sound of the re-issue of Blows Against The Empire. However, I still think that a clean copy of the original sounds better. But good luck finding a nice copy of that original LP. I am more than happy to play this and save the extra wear and tear on my original.
@mlblue53554 жыл бұрын
Yes, that’s good you got a new copy to give your OG a break. You said you played it a ton. I wanted a copy of this for quite awhile. A few months back, I saw one, but it was quite scratched up. I passed on it. Then luckily I found a German and US original pressing. They were cheap, so I bought both of them. I was thinking that the German pressing was going to blow it away, because my Jethro Tull and other German pressings are unbelievable. Anyways, the German was fantastic, but I also loved the US pressing. I played them back to back. I’ll need to do that again, and maybe focus more on the differences. I was just listening to them for enjoyment and having never heard the album before, I was blown away. I love that Jerry Garcia was on there. With the music, artwork, lyric booklets and such, it’s a unique experience and quite a ride. It’s something you want from all your albums, but it’s quite rare!

My friend bought Leonard Nimoy's record in 1967 when it was new. Strange album, he couldn't sing but they had him make about four albums. Dot was not a label of great quality, but Paramount had bought it from its founder Randy Wood and Paramount also made Star Trek after buying Desilu Studios from Lucy and Desi so they had Leonard make records while he worked there to profit from his popularity.

I used to see Paul Kantner at our cafe trieste in north beach about once a week. I'm sure I have pics of him. He always wore these funny tights instead of pants, all the way to the end. Cafe Trieste was mecca for many. Some worthy, some not. At least the international tourists kept it fresh. Places like that attract a lot of iffy old dudes who only want to hear themselves talk. And not buy anything.

Hey Topper! Happy New Year! Just got that "Blows" l.p.. Wondering if you heard what sounds like a digital hiccup on the first tune? I know its probably a digital source, but it still kinda freaky hearing it on vinyl. Rest of l.p. sounds great!
@oddboxTopper4 жыл бұрын
That “hickup” is also on the original 1970 version. Don’t know if it was intensional or just a glitch in the editing. Definitely way before digital. According to the internet, the glitch was caused when an edit was made to erase a curse word.
