Wayne really appreciate these, even as a fellow referee, enjoy them good to get refreshers on law

The last oddity was a common occurrence in Connacht’s home ground in Galway!

Can I ask a question about the no tackler tackle please? Would He Man have to release if he technically isn't a tackler? And similarly, if you were a supporting tackler who did not go to ground, would you have to release? Thanks, Jen

I'm also confused. Do they have to release?

Yes, would be consider an ‘other’ under law 14.4.c.i and would therefore have to release under law 14.8.a

totally understandable. But there are a few oddities with the 50:22 rule that I want to bring up. Firstly can you take the ball back to your own half? Second of all is can you take a direct 50:22 from a free kick or do you have to tap and kick?

Not sure about the second one, but in the first case, no. The player cannot take ball back into their own half, and kick looking for a 50:22. However, if a player is tackled in the opposition half, and the next phase sees the ruck formed inside their own half, then yes they can.

Actually, just remembered, answer to your second question is yes. Happened recently, George Ford, i think, called for a mark, took the free kick directly, and it landed inside the opposition 22. Leicester had the line out, so yes you can take a free kick directly for a 50:22.

@@ClydebridgeStation Quite right. I need an education on new laws.

Do the laws specify the direction that the ball must cross the crossbar between the posts? I.e. could the ball miss wide, but then get blown back through “in reverse”?

Ball held up in a maul possession gets turned over... Except if it is caught directly from a kick, when an unsuccessful maul would be scrum to the team who caught it..........Except if this kick was from a restart kick, then posession is turned over? Think that's correct? That has to be the most confusing as there are two counter exceptions.

Not odd at all. How u explained the 2nd seemed a play on words. Tackler has to get back on his feet before he can get back involved in play means if he's stayed on his feet, he thus won't be penalised for interfering with play. Or is it worded like that (tackle with no tackler) in the rule book?
