No separation of the ball when Wonder Woman is jumping to score... but you say this is a knock on. In another video didnt you say that with no separation is OK? Am I missing a technicality @wayne

What if a player is running backwards to retrieve a ball overruns the ball and reaches back and touches the ball but doesn't gather the ball in....is that a knock on ?

As a newcomer, I needed this after trying to figure out this very situation in Ireland vs France in the opening match of Six Nation. The ball was held up on an Ireland try attempt and France was awarded the drop kick.

Well Mr Barnes, this surely is an old vid and most likely you wont even notice this... But I'm wondering if Captain America is right in front of Spiderman and goes for the tackle...Spider man leaps over captain america and lands to score a try.... Isn't that dangerous play? In this demo you smarly get Captain america to the side and I believe that changes the equation drastically. A straight on tackle is harder to miss while a side on is a lot easier.

Wayne, the law says deliberate knock forward. Not deliberate knock on. There is a massive difference. There is no mention in the laws of a deliberate knock down or deliberate knock on. If you knock the ball forward to regather, up or down, it is illegal. If the player tried to catch the ball in the first instance then it is ok. Bit of a grey area there for sure. You cannot stick your hand out and hope. You must attempt to catch it. Its very clear in the law book. A referee should know this. Calling it a deliberate knock on or knock down is wrong.

More TMNT explanations please, Wayne. This is cracking. Armchair refs are always going to find something to shout about. My favourite line at the moment is "Herring has a brain injury so it should have been a red card" as if the TMO and yourselves on the pitch can do a quick MRI while making the call, madness! You guys do a hard job and I'm sure have the best intentions of the players and the game at heart, thanks for that 💪 we appreciate you.
@JD-lz2uq
@JD-lz2uq Жыл бұрын
If you forget what you call ‘armchair refs’ are saying re a brain injury, and simply watch the replay, that Wayne Barnes had access to, you can see this was a clear red card. This is also reflected in both the player accepting the charge, and the citing commission saying it should have been red, and handing out a three game ban. In this instance the referee made a mistake. This happens in every line of work and it’s okay to accept this can happen occasionally. He does do a hard job, performs to a very high level, and I’m sure always has the best of intentions, but it’s okay to admit he got this one wrong

I think in a sterile environment explaining the Laws all seems pretty straight forward, no pressure no time constraints and no 50,000 people screaming in your direction. When you have to go through the process if incidences like this occur I feel there are more contributing factors that come in to play other than the incident itself and that is only human and nature of the game. Some tackles are clear cut others open to interpretation when the latter is the case you are never going to please all. For me the Uini Antonio tackle in the Ireland game was a red but I'm not a ref in the middle of a massive test game with the two best teams in the world with a packed house screaming at them. You made the call and did so in your opinion and did so clearly and concisely you for me are arguably the best referee in world rugby so although I didn't agree with the call I will always respect the referees call. But wow what a game we were treated too

Didnt even know this was a thing till I saw it on a Six nations game last week. Great job. IRB in explaining your changes to your fans. You run the 3rd largest sport in the WORLD, yet you cant be bothered telling people how to play it. Lovely jovely m8. Atleast it seems to be working as teams now have 2-3 back, instead of all 15 up front.

Unfortunately I think you’ve forgotten one thing. There needs to be an ATTEMPT TO WRAP! Antonio’s tackle was a shoulder charge and that’s why you got that one wrong IMO.

Refs don't get it right the whole time. Tbh he is one of the best in the business but mistakes get made , we move on. I'm sure the French could say lowe was in touch and we could counter with a no arms tackle. All in all a good game with the right outcome.

Excellent. I don't watch rugby often, and have often been confused by the knock-on. "He's fumbled it, but then he's kicked it, so how's that different from him intentionally kicking it forward to himself?" I would think. Turns out, yes, it's all about intention. Thanks! 😊
