Ha, my family had the cine-film version of this model, only thing was the bulb used to get so hot, the machine eventually caught fire. But I always remember it burning dust in the air. Freaky.

Mark Anderson I had found my dads Betamax 70's porn tapes and I would transfer onto VHS tapes as a teenager when I had the place to myself.......goodtimes, goodtimes.

Pornography on video tape just seems all-too-fitting. People just used to have get it any way they could, and now for my generation it's all just a few clicks away.

It was more shocking to me. I was 16 and had no idea. I found some sex toys and a bag of weed. He has been gone 18 years now. I had no trouble threading it, I had no idea it would autothread anyway.

My family got one of these very same models for Christmas 1975. I just used it this past week. I had one of the belts and the bulb replaced.

I have the same projector. The belt can be hard to find but I used a large O-ring from a local transmission shop and it works quite well.

Variable speed makes it possible, to run normal 8 with 15 fps and super 8 with maybe 20 fps. In PAL/SECAM countries they recommend 16 2/3 fps for normal 8 and 20 fps for super 8.

There should be a little cutter with the projector. The idea was that it would trim the end of the film to a taper which means that it will auto thread easily. There was a string attached to it so that you could tie it onto the carry handle so that you don't loose it. I bought mine in about 1978.

OH my gosh, I had one of these as a kid! Excellent! Nice to see it again... Hey Ben, this machine originally came with a specific Sankyo take-up reel that gently grabbed the film from the back and thread it onto that reel. Maybe that's why you are having some issues with that...

A universal projector stresses the normal 8, for it doesn't change the size of the spikes, what moves the film step by step.

One question, have you to exchange the transport rolls? Do you have the adapters from the smaller "tape reel type" hole to the S8 hole?

So what's the difference between 8mm and Super8 film? I just thought Super8 was a higher quality film but other than that exactly the same as 8mm.
@markanderson350

I think its wider too.

Same width film (8mm), but the sproket joles on Suprer 8 are smaller, allowing for a bigger picture frame, I seem to remember it was about 25% bigger. It also ran faster, 18 FPS instead of 16 fps for standard 8. Incidentally, the Super 8 format was Kodak's system, but the actual film guage was claimed to have been invented by Fugi film and was called "Single 8". It used a different shaped cartridge for the unexposed film.

Maxx Fugifilm is a well known company - over here anyway. And no, Super 8 is 8mm wide (hence the "8" in the name. Here's the fuji website: www.fujifilm.eu/uk/

In East Germany they had double super 8 film, where you use both halfs of a special 16 mm film. It's interesting, that normal 8 reels were used for quarter inch tape, so the larger tape reels may be compatible to 8 mm film, but I doesn't know about a projector large enough for this.

1:56 In a 2 format projector, sound is much difficult, for nomal and super 8 has different standards for sound and also different speeds, beside 24 fps for playing home movies you bought, normal 8 runs with 16 fps and super with 18 fps.

Anyone know good models that can take an LED bulb? Should last longer bet brighter and not burn the film.

I don't think any research is going into that one. it is the shading that matters, more, not the light output.
