I heard this about Bose from a movie theater sound engineer: "No highs. No lows. It must be Bose." That company tried to market a funky subwolfer for the theater industry which was called an accoustical cannon. Same sound engineer called it "the sewer pipe."

This is why I don’t need CD players anymore. I recently acquired my 1970’s Superscope Storyteller portable cassette player and it still works. The reason why I got my little cassette player, because it was designed for playing Superscope Storyteller cassette tapes along with read along books, and it was made for kids of all ages. In addition, it can play music which are not meant for kids, and it also use a Bluetooth cassette adapter or an Updated Cassette Player for playing MP3’s using an SD card.

I have the M50 which I found at Goodwill for $5. That's the next model up with the 3 CD changer. I can't comment on how the CD sounds because the changer is broken, which seems to be a common issue with the M50. I agree, the sound curve is strange and I couldn't get it to sound right with different speaker combinations. In the end I hooked it up to a Yamaha sub woofer and then onto Energy 5 mini speakers and it sounds pretty good now. I also got the matching cassette deck for another $5 from Goodwill as they were donated together.

Hey there. Just a thought on the RDS, but I've found anecdotally that with RDS switched on you often need a really good signal from the broadcaster for it to be received well enough to display on a receiver. Also, in the US do your FM stations typically broadcast RDS data? I just had a quick read of 'radio data system' page on Wikipedia and there's a few other things on there that might be worth considering. I'm not smart enough to understand if it's this for sure but apparently 'RDS' was European and RBDS was the US equivalent "with the two standards being only slightly different". Could your Denon unit be destined for the 'european' market originally perhaps (total guess!)? There is another interesting paragraph there about some old audio equipment "stereo enhancement devices combined with aggressive audio processing could render the RDS subcarrier unreceivable." Anyway hope you figure it out!
@DDGXMUSIC4 жыл бұрын
Quick follow up, curiously this review remarks that the unit has 'no RDS' - there is clearly a button marked RDS on this gentleman's picture of the remote control too though! A phantom button? www.kenrockwell.com/audio/denon/ud-m30.htm
@und42874 жыл бұрын
Considering there is also a European-style antenna jack, it probably was originally designed for the European market, where 95% of FM stations use RDS.

If you press play on the CD player when it's off it will play. Don't complain about the remote. It's your fault for buying one that DOESNT HAVE RDS!! Speaker placement.
