I heard this about Bose from a movie theater sound engineer: "No highs. No lows. It must be Bose." That company tried to market a funky subwolfer for the theater industry which was called an accoustical cannon. Same sound engineer called it "the sewer pipe."

Bose to me has, and always will be one those marketing department hype BS companies, with overpriced, and under performing products.

I have a Bose L1 compact and this has the tendency to boost treble too much. About bass: For a compact speaker it goes low, but sounds better, when adding a subwoofer

This is why I don’t need CD players anymore. I recently acquired my 1970’s Superscope Storyteller portable cassette player and it still works. The reason why I got my little cassette player, because it was designed for playing Superscope Storyteller cassette tapes along with read along books, and it was made for kids of all ages. In addition, it can play music which are not meant for kids, and it also use a Bluetooth cassette adapter or an Updated Cassette Player for playing MP3’s using an SD card.

I have the M50 which I found at Goodwill for $5. That's the next model up with the 3 CD changer. I can't comment on how the CD sounds because the changer is broken, which seems to be a common issue with the M50. I agree, the sound curve is strange and I couldn't get it to sound right with different speaker combinations. In the end I hooked it up to a Yamaha sub woofer and then onto Energy 5 mini speakers and it sounds pretty good now. I also got the matching cassette deck for another $5 from Goodwill as they were donated together.

I have this Denon unit. Purchased it in 2002. Almost 20 years. Still sounds great but can't say that I used it much over the past 8 years. I drive Paradigm cinema speakers with it. Nice little office system. I purchased it for about $800 CAN new.

Picked up an immaculate one of these from ebay for £8 with apparently a CD drive problem... The problem I found was 2 cds in the drive and the post man had fixed the problem by tossing it around in the back of his delivery truck... All's well that ends well...

These systems don't like even the smallest of power surges they end up with the driver transistors for the DC to DC convertor on the audio PCB blowing out.

Hey there. Just a thought on the RDS, but I've found anecdotally that with RDS switched on you often need a really good signal from the broadcaster for it to be received well enough to display on a receiver. Also, in the US do your FM stations typically broadcast RDS data? I just had a quick read of 'radio data system' page on Wikipedia and there's a few other things on there that might be worth considering. I'm not smart enough to understand if it's this for sure but apparently 'RDS' was European and RBDS was the US equivalent "with the two standards being only slightly different". Could your Denon unit be destined for the 'european' market originally perhaps (total guess!)? There is another interesting paragraph there about some old audio equipment "stereo enhancement devices combined with aggressive audio processing could render the RDS subcarrier unreceivable." Anyway hope you figure it out!
@DDGXMUSIC
@DDGXMUSIC 4 жыл бұрын
Quick follow up, curiously this review remarks that the unit has 'no RDS' - there is clearly a button marked RDS on this gentleman's picture of the remote control too though! A phantom button? www.kenrockwell.com/audio/denon/ud-m30.htm
@und4287
@und4287 4 жыл бұрын
Considering there is also a European-style antenna jack, it probably was originally designed for the European market, where 95% of FM stations use RDS.

Hi there, like you I have a cheap turntable connected to the Denon with a y cable like you. If I want to connect another device to it using another y cable where should it connect to on the back. I've tried every combination you can think of but I can't run two units at one time? Any ideas Thanks
@OddityArchive

If I had a turntable hooked up, it'd just be to one of the regular inputs--no y-cable involved. The only thing I use a y-cable for would be an iPod.

I used to have this UD-M30 ABSOLUTELY PERFECT LITTLE UNIT. Highly recommend Energy Take2 on stands and energy-mirage 8" to the stereo outputs. The remote is a mess 26 is full blast. Side note.. If you press play on the CD player when it's off it will play. Don't complain about the remote. It's your fault for buying one that DOESNT HAVE RDS!! Speaker placement. You can't talk when you have them like that. This is a good source unit. You gotta solve YOUR PROBLEMS.. And not blame this thing.
