At a Goodwill I found a bunch of early 1980s LP dubs on good quality tape. One was _Escape_ and whoever dubbed it took the time to perfectly recreate the stylized title in ballpoint pen on the back of the cassette liner. For _years_ the only _Home Alone_ we had was 3. I now have the first two on tape. Interestingly enough, the _only_ tape from my childhood that got completely lost was Home Alone 3.

Describes the modern game collecting market perfectly. PriceCharting has made it super simple to find out what a game is 'worth', and everybody prices their things accordingly. That's the main reason I dropped out of game collecting - you can't find bargains when everybody knows the exact going price of everything, and I wasn't in it to buy a huge collection of games at full price.

13:06 - Barbara Streisands "Jingle Bells" is a guilty pleasure of mine, simply because of how insane her rendition of it is. 13:08 - That particular Jackie Evancho album was released only two months after she first appeared on AGT, and her singing of those Christmas songs is actually very good for being only 10 years old at the time. It definitely isn't a top-40 wannabe album, and from the few samples I heard, it also steers clear of kiddie album territory. It's just fairly standard, opera-style covers of Christmas songs. 17:05 - I recall Polaroid blank VHS tapes were sold until the mid 2000s, mostly at discount retailers and convenience stores. 19:28 - Meet Lalaloopsy, the creepiest girls doll franchise ever created. Made by the same company that unleashed Bratz onto the world... 20:32 - Surprised you passed on that sealed copy of the Lady and the Tramp VHS in the upper left corner.
@RetroDakota4 жыл бұрын
Addendum: Right now, my local grocery store (one of those independent outfits) has started selling Christmas CD re-issue albums in their greeting card section. You have the usual suspects like Elvis and Nat King Cole, but also artists like Chicago, John Denver, and even the official soundtrack to "A Charlie Brown Christmas". Since I don't have much of a CD collection, I've started picking these up whenever I can.

I do have three Jackie Evancho’s Christmas albums and she sounded good when she was still a young girl doing opera, and then in her young adult years, she is still singing.

Re: that Poe book. I suspect that's part of a "uniform edition", a multivolume set of a popular author with a large bibliography where the books are the same size and style so that they look good on the shelf. They were a trend at the turn of the last century, and if it forces you to buy the same books a second time just to have a matching set, all the better.

Ah yes. Remember when Fast Food chains would sell promotional drinkware? I think I have one or two of those Garfield mugs somewhere. There was a Peanuts set as well. I think both of them even had non-breakable plastic or melmac (I'm bad with kitchenware materials) versions for the kids. Then of course, Shrek 3 came out and McDonalds offered glasses, but the sweatsho...errr... factory that made them used a lead based cadmium dye and they had to be recalled. They never offered anything like that again, but did have plastic cups for 3 of the 4 Lego Movie Happy Meal promotions. Anyway, here's the commercial for the Garfield mugs if you're interested. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqOtmoelocSJpdE

I miss when fast food companies had secondary merchandise outside of the kid's meal premiums. They used to have videos and glasses and plush toys and like that. I think the last time a fast food company did something was those tainted Shrek glasses, but I do remember Lord of the Rings glassware at Burger King. Probably the first movie, but I'm not sure. I also miss the big plastic cups you'd get if you ordered a large meal. Sure, they have large thin plastic cups, but they're rarely collector related. Subway had a Star Wars cup promotion years back, and if you want to get very technical to the point of pushing it, Burger King had Stranger Things season 3 printing on the cups, but it was just the 80's logo and the show's logo. Hell, they don't even print characters on the paper cups anymore.

Acoustic records plays fine with RIAA. But a 65 micrometer stylus (1950's standard for shellacs) is too fine. Better use 90 or 120 micrometer, so it picks up the groove properly, not too deep in the groove.

Total scam on the price, but those apps marketed on gaming device cartridge, prior to the 7th generation were actually pretty common... even into the 7th generation, they appeared constantly in the DS' library as shovelware, as it simply didn't have the same kind of power or accessibility as the PSP. Nintendo rather notably had two of their own to their name; The Brain Age series of education remedial tools and the Wii Fit series of Workout tools... trust me, the latter actually worked somewhat, look it up if you're morbidly curious. In otherwords, if you found the accessories for some of them, like that piano training tool for the NES, with its ENTIRE FUCKING ELECTRIC KEYBOARD you actually could make an episode out of it.

Taboo might make for an interesting video! If you found a couple of other weird not-very-game-like NES carts, too, which I'm pretty sure there's a non-zero number of from the early days. I heard the Cinema Snop and Obscurus Lupa have this very public feud going. Not in your typical "angry reviewer" feud, I'm talking, "put these two in the same room and they will both be in the hospital for boxing injuries" feud, and from what I've seen, the Snob has been stoking the flames of this feud. For full transparency, I prefer Lupa to the Snob, mainly because the quality of the jokes are just a bit more to my liking. UPDATE: ok so apparently Lupa doxxed the snob so they're both asshats.
