I found the movie very interesting because they kept it simple. The ending wasn't as good for me because she had promised she didn't want to kill him but expose him. They should have figured out a clever way to expose him and have him lose his job, house and face his gf.
@lechugastudiosyt74652 ай бұрын
@@orduenshambe4891it works for me because technically she wanted to kill him initially but figured it would be more of a punishment for him for him to be exposed and lose everything ofc. The movie makes us believe she failed and right at the end it’s his lack of belief in the super natural and his own ego that is his undoing. And I think that her sending the bell was so if she ends up failing to expose him, he will still be punished in the end so it was very satisfying for me

I think Darcy used the wooden “pumkinhead” type monster to get revenge on Olin Boole. When she learned that she killed the wrong person she hatched a plan to use the wooden man to kill the true murderers and shipped the bell to herself so that she could use the bellhop for self termination. Her plan got a little messed up when she fell through the floor. I believe she can only control the wooden monster while she is alive, it’s why the monster couldn’t finish Ivan, but it all worked out in the end when Dr. Timmis rang the bell. Darcy wanted to die in the house so that she could be with her sister Dani. Great story telling!

I think Olin (one-eyed man) didn't tell Dani the husband part because she would have questioned why he thought that/how he knew, and if he told her he'd overheard them at the hospital she'd know he was a patient and probably not believe anything he said. It's more believable to hear from a stranger that he saw someone slip through the door she left open than that her husband planned her murder.

The moral of this story is, "If you ever receive a package from Darcy, do not open it. Return to Sender, immediately!" Poor Olin, I bet she mailed the golem to the halfway house and that's how it got him. Savage! His roommate will be traumatized for life. Looks like he tried to report the murder he witnessed to the authorities and that's how he ended up in the mental institution, drawing sketches of the golem and the murder. Even Darcy knew murdering the wrong person would come back to her and she would pay for her mistake.

Oddity is better than Longlegs imo. The protagonists psychic abilities in this movie feel integral to her character and to the plot. Unlike Longlegs the evil isn't explained by the devil or demonic powers; in fact the supernatural elements are actually a force for good while the men are evil, but it's weaved together in way that works really well and doesn't take away from the creepiness of the ghost. *Spoilers* It had a few minor plot conveniences but was very good. I wondered why Ted let the girlfriend get away when she had enough dirt on him to expose him and why Olin didn't reveal Ted's plan to Danni since he overheard the entire conversation through the vents. I assume it was the mannequin which killed Olin although I have no idea of how it would have been delivered there. The movie itself had the hair on my arms raised at least six times which is extremely rare for a horror movie. There were three extremely effective jump scares involving the girlfriend that was all the more impressive given the pacing. Darcy was equally vulnerable and creepy as hell. Also liked the stabs at dark humor. Overall, one of the better horror movies to come out lately which should be seen in theaters.

Why didn't that one eyed guy just say "Your fuckin POS husband hired someone to kill you" instead of literally acting crazy, they never really implied that he was still insane after killing his mother, infact they were releasing him. Wasn't the reason he was there to save her? There is absolutely no reason he had to deliver that information so crypticly like that,...
@brodyschumАй бұрын
I wrestled with that a bit myself, but upon a second viewing, given that Ivan had already beaten Olin to the house and because Dani was horrified at Olin’s sudden appearance, she would’ve had zero reason to believe him if he’d said her husband hired someone to kill her. She didn’t even believe him that someone was in the house until she heard the floors creaking. Who could blame her? A frantic mental patient shows up at her door in the middle of the night demanding to be let in for a “look around” because someone is inside. Sounds more like a twist on the home invader who claims he’s been in an accident than it does that Olin is some sort of bedraggled, one-eyed guardian angel. Given the stakes and time constraints to save her, I s’pose he did the best he could, especially by encouraging her to call the police.

@@finpark7785 Yeah, that does discount any credibility he may have hoped to gain, seeing as his sudden and rather distressed appearance was grounds for Dani to fear for her life right from the onset.
