I’m convinced these two are the only honest film reviewers on KZbin. I literally feel like I’m taking crazy pills listening to so many insane takes from other critics praising movies like this and other equally horrible films. These two are refreshing in how honest and straightforward they are about the story and character details. Real human film critics uncorrupted by the system and not afraid to tell it like it is. Never change! 10/10

While I do get what you are saying about absence of integrity when it comes to critiquing art and stuff, there is a thing also called "difference in opinion" right? Like if they don't like or care for inside out 2 for whatever reason and many of us enjoy it, does that make the ones who genuinely liked it all liars and corporate slaves who sold our souls??? That's a bit extreme too. Joseph and Nick liked challengers and hit man and I saw some other reviewers calling those movies "too overhyped and too overrated". Doesn't mean these guys or everyone else who disagreed with their opinion all liars.
@JMWilyat
@JMWilyat 5 ай бұрын
@@nikitamohan3390lol what? Did you even read my comment. I wasn’t saying people can’t have differing opinions, I was saying that these two are honest about story and character details in ways that larger KZbinrs are not. I don’t think insane plot holes are a matter of opinion. Also it’s valid to enjoy a movie that has plot holes or is intentionally campy, nothing wrong with that but that’s not the point I’m making. You can see big KZbinrs talking about big movies with almost no mention of the cringe in the plot and character development. It’s clear the larger channels are playing nice with big budget films and has actually led me away from watching many of those channels.

The book is waaaaaaaaaay better. Part of the problem with this film is that the first book is A LOT of story covering the months they're all in that cabin, and the movie tries to jam pack everything into 100 or so minutes. The cramming is so dense that they change quite a few items to make them fit, but the things that they changed certain plot points into didn't make any sense and were just to move stuff along. And the big reveal is so much better too. This adaptation should have either covered just half of the book, or been a limited series to truly get into the lore and the horror of it all. But the book by A.M. Shine is AMAZING and the sequel, "Stay In The Light" drops October 2024 (this year!).

I like this movie. I comprehend most of it. It’s pretty much about past trauma and letting go of guilt, regret, and pain. (Foreshadowing) The main character Mina shape shifts into other people (wearing wigs, different personas) because she blames herself for her mom’s death. Once in the forest there are fairies that can shape shift into humans. The fairies have a grudge against the humans because humans locked them away in this forest . The fairie watch the humans to master what it’s like to be human, (ex the show “Big Brother” replaying over and over, interactions with each other). There is only one fairy that can do it perfectly. This fairy can be in sunlight, unlike the others that only come out at night. Reason is revealed towards the end when the fairy finds out it’s half human. As the fairy recollects on its bonding time with the humans(feelings,emotions, sympathy) it realizes it doesn’t have to be shackled down by its past and chooses to watch over Mina as s guardian while Mina learns to let go of her past trauma.

Some artists want the audience to fill in the blanks themselves and not bother guiding them, no matter how weird the plot might be. I don't like that, but I met someone who writes stories just like these and when I gave feedback that I found the plot hard to follow, they just said that's on purpose. "Use your imagination!" 🤦🤷

@@AmarisFrede Good point. I write scripts, many with surprise endings. Before I show anyone I constantly ask myself questions about character arcs, dialog, plot points and mysteries solved to make sure I'm not making these same mistakes. Your inner voice will tell you when something is a missfire. Only after that will I let someone who I know will give me an honest review, read the script. As an artist, there are things to keep true to one's artistic self and then there is the side of the audience. You need to have a balance of both.

The characters in the box should have been unknowing halflings and that’s why they were drawn to the forest. And they each were off in some way. And the watchers watched them to see their differences and to prepare them to return to the world and take it back over. That would have made how weird Mina was make sense. The Shymalans need to have somebody else write their endings.

Agreed. I wish they would have left the ending more ambiguous. Like, have Dakota Fanning realize Madeline is a changeling, but leave it at that. She can't find her and she's out among humanity to either get revenge or bring back the time of the fae being Gods or, you know, whatever. Just leave it open-ended after the realization. I think that would have been better.

ALL of this!! I made the mistake of thinking this was M. Night Shymalan, not his daughter and have been disappointed since seeing it Friday. I feel a little better since I usually find M. Night movies very interesting with all the twists and turns but this was not it. I feel like the this could've really been good but it just wasn't. One of my biggest pet peeves is after returning to their homes, it seems as if no one missed them. Was no one aware that they were missing? I know Mina didn't have a lot of family that she was close to, but did the store owner/employee not report her missing? If this is present day, was there ever a search? Her phone's gps should've shown where she was heading and where she lost contact. This movie had too many loose ends to be enjoyable. My 16-year old daughter claimed she liked it alot, so there's that.

*Spoilers* I knew fairly early on one of the characters was going to be a watcher but was hoping it would be Georgina's character as she had already tried to sneak once and was having the hardest time dealing with her missing husband. Another interesting twist they could have done would have been to have Madeline discover she was one of the Watchers at the same time as the others when watching the video. The final act and the exposition dump made it seem more rushed and unbelievable, but there was potential to salvage this movie. I'm not curious enough to read the book but maybe I'll read the summary. There is no way something this shoddy is a faithful adaptation. Who knew such a mediocre movie would have lent itself to one of the funniest reviews on this channel? I was giggling throughout.

One thing I realized from Shyamalan’s narrative/story plot/ films - it’s like from the 90s quirky movie sets. Plain, predictable, and all you have to do is follow the trail of crumbs. Here’s the door. This is the scene’s window. This is where the villain gets slain. Etc.. You already know what you are gonna be expecting. Then again, we always get tricked because M Night loves the drama of unpredictability.

Maybe I missed something, but I was really confused as to why the "coop" had all this 1992 tech, when supposedly the professor was living there in 2009? Was this a case of trying to change the timeline from the book, but ending up with huge inconsistencies? Also, I laughed out loud and groaned heavily when they turn on this 1992 PC and one of them says "is there a signal down here?"

I just came out of the theater. Interesting story, but the final product had more holes than the scenery. And it was a huge missed opportunity to cast the two Fanning sisters together. I wish the movie was 'based on the story' and made it make more sense for cinematic purposes. A lot of loosely tied symbology (twinning, spiritual and physical confinement, redheaded stepchildren, freedom and birds, prodigal children and the confinement of evil). Wish it was better because I love pagan tales. And I wish the two characters weren't so stupid. It was a 5/10 for me.

I did not have any desire to see this from the teasers, i just felt like you can tell when a movie is going to be a drawn out mess sometimes. Dont mind taking your word for it

The Dad M.Night Shyamalan gave me some pondering to do in his movie The Village! So, it's the same with this one, Joseph trying out all the better alternatives...a Sign perhaps of "Like Father, like daughter" 😉☺

Movie was intriguing in the beginning. It fell flat at the end. The “twist” was dumb. Characters made dumb decisions. Best thing was looking at Georgina Campbell.

Oh my goodness! I am sooooo glad you reviewed this dumb movie! Holy moly, I just could not believe what I was watching. And like Joseph, I had so many dang questions. Btw, Joseph cracked me up every time he got frustrated with this movie and sighed, made disgusted noises and clapped. Trust me, I was just as frustrated with this film. Well done, guys, your review was right on point!

@@wanya_telbornTrue. I meant by Hollywood but it definitely came off mean without more context. First time directors have to start somewhere and I like that Dakota takes chances. I hope she does more projects. I've missed her. I don't always agree with the guys' reviews anyway but they are entertaining. They've definitely hated on movies I ended up liking. If you watch it let me know what you thought.

So me also reading book (optimisticly hoping no where near finishing): *got it!* okay so boom. The artsy new tenant/captive has the skill to sculpt "look alikes" to trick creatures into thinking they're still in container home WHILE escaping out the side door. WIN! TA-DA!! Finally the last resident saves the day allowing all to escape from the cuckoo's nest by artistic trickery 😮 Also Me: This is some movie BS!!! I sure hope the movie and book deviated greatly because that "SECRET hidden basement door" is some M. Night Classic-BS.... No one moved that table to stand on it to unscrew that light bulb EVER 💡? *EVER?*

Differing opinions aren’t an attack Danny. But I suppose your glowing review means you want Ishana Shyamalan to let you hit (by your own logic)
