10:34 The Napoleon Dynamite: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack has that kind of Easter Egg. On track 17, when the song "The Promise" by When in Rome ends, there is a minute long blank spot followed by 3 minutes & 19 seconds of audio from Napoleon Dynamite's post credits scene.

The CD “Songs in the Key of X”, a really good X-Files album, has two pre-tracks before the first track.

I had no idea there could be audio in the pre-gap... or that there could be a pre-gap before the 1st track... or that a pre-gap was ever longer than a few seconds (don't think I ever saw one other than 2.0 sec). I had assumed it was something in the CD's table of contents that told the CD player to insert a silent pause of 'x'' seconds between tracks. That contract the one manufacturer wanted you to sign -- absolutely nuts. Also... with the severely reduced demand for CD manufacturing, I'm surprised they were so inflexible regarding 'Easter eggs' or anything else. Has the market fully readjusted to demand, and the manufacturers that are left have plenty of business for the capacity they have? And of course, I have to mention how much I LOVE Thereminiature / Pavanned 6.66. :-)

The abridged 1CD version of Jethro Tull's Bursting Out live album used pre gaps in an interesting way: all the chatting/jokes/etc Ian Anderson did between songs resides in pre gaps.

F.A.D.E. is one of the best instrumentals I had ever heard. Very underrated. I am surprised no one has used it as a theme or incidental music. Various emotions in that piece. 👍

I have never tried it myself but have been toying with the idea of hiding audio in cd pregaps. My suggestion would be to author the cd manually, by assembling and spacing the individual tracks in Audacity (or similar), and export to a single wave file. At the same time, the starting points of each pregap and track should be manually written into a cue sheet. If needed, the cue/wav pair can be converted into a set of ddp files using cue2ddp.

I did always enjoy little hidden things like that. Sponge's album Rotting Piñata has a hidden track when you rewind from the last track. I only discovered it because my crap CD player kept freezing when it got to the last track. Your album is great, by the way.

Man you're just full of little surprises, aren't you, Ben? LOL! Interesting rant, and I've never been aware of much of what you brought up - now I'm gonna have to pay more attention to that stuff, check for pregap stuff and such...arrrgh!
