NOTES: This episode was pulled from YT after a dispute left it banned nearly worldwide. The 2nd half of this episode has been completely re-edited to resolve some sync issues and other minor stuff. The entire episode’s audio has been remixed.
ORIGINAL TAGLINE: Interested in seeing a clown so laid-back, he forgets he's on camera? Now about a Hawaiian teen idol with a pen fetish? Maybe an American Bandstand ripoff with an evil spirit hosting? If you answered yes to any of these questions, watch this episode--then seek immediate professional help.

Svengoolie came back on a few years ago. You can see him every Saturday at 10pm on "ME TV" across the country. Count Scary is probably the best of them all. I feel bad for anybody who didn't get to see him.

For those wondering, Svengoolie did get cancelled in '86... then got revived in '94 at another Chicago station. The program was picked up by MeTV in 2011 where it has been since.

Thank you for encouraging me to go back and think about my local tv shows, both of which I was on. There was Whiz Quiz from WPBS in Watertown, NY and The Danny Burgess Show, which was the clown format with cartoon, except instead of a clown, it was a local minor sports celebrity and the sports broadcaster.

You are aware that Ginny Tiu appeared on a number of programs from Ed Sullivan to Make Room For Daddy and many others when she was younger. She was also in a number of movies in the 60s including one with Elvis where they she does a duet with him.

That Fisher Space Pen reminded me of the old story, when the Russians were faced with the problem in their space program, writing in zero G at any angle, they used a pencil...
@fixman88
@fixman88 8 жыл бұрын
That story is a myth. Fisher came up with the Space Pen idea and developed it all by themselves THEN they went to NASA with it. Also, having a highly flammable wood and graphite item in the high-oxygen level atmosphere of spacecraft of the era would have been a very bad idea.

Lazy research, wiki says: Daughter of William Tiu, a teacher from Hong Kong, Ginny was one of the musically gifted and insufferably adorable Tiu sisters, along with Pat, Elizabeth Tiu and Vicky Tiu. Appeared on Ed Sullivan & other variety shows, made at least one commercial (Kellogg's Cornflakes). Rode in the Hollywood Christmas Parade, 1962.

Hey Ben, I'd love to see you take on Wallace and Ladmo, the excellent KPHO-TV kid's show that ran for 35 years. Aside from its cult-like status and being an influence on Steven Spielberg and Alice Cooper, you'll find tart tweeks at authority, contemporary humor aimed at kids and adults, great original music and characters with a lot of depth. Mostly written by the funny and subversive host, Bill 'Wallace' Thompson. Some nice clips and a few complete episodes on YT that could give you a taste. And if you won't, that bratty rich kid Gerald Springer (the boss's nephew) might send his monster to Colorado to deal with you directly! Oops. PS: the show once did an on-air bit on a real rope noose my brother and I sent in to use on Gerald. It was very twisted!

My immediate thought in regard to that pen is why would an astronaut, (presumably doing a space walk, what with his helmet on and everything), want to be writing anything down on a writing pad, especially when he's, no doubt, in some kind of radio contact with those he might need to communicate with?

Are these 'local shows' asked which aired on local broadcast stations, or were they public access? I LOVED public access (NYC) during the late-70s to the late-80s. There were shows which were similar to Oddity Archive (WFMU. The public access show, NOT the radio shows). I say this as a compliment. In fact, one the two of my favourite episodes (the That's Irritainment specials) is on KZbin (kzbin.info/www/bejne/infcqayHf7uDpZo). Ben describes OA as having a 'nighttime' feel, and it really does. I suffer from insomnia, and in occasion, I'll just watch episode-after-episode (NO; I DIDN'T say it works as a sedative 😉). Thanks, Ben!

I remember making my father buy me a Fisher space pen (at our local Bush Stationers a stationary & office supply store this one located inside of a mall that and the pre-internet times did so much business it could afford to be a two-story store inside of a mall) so exciting that FSP can write underwater upside down, and then I got home with it and in my opinion it wrote less smoothly than a standard Paper Mate, not really a fan and I imagine the Parker jotter cartridge is pressurized also but I never hear them talking up any special features on any of the packaging I've ever seen on one... cross and Montblanc types are also sealed refills and maybe stuff like zebra also may be pressurized but most ballpoint pen cannot write upside down or in space " all a part of this vocation; i got my pen i got my hand , i got my filin' system!"

You know Sammy Terry was at one time the only way to watch old horror movies in / around the Indianapolis area. He also did a lot of charity stuff In character. He's a household name to those who remember him. My dad used to watch him every weekend during the afternoons where they showed old horror / 50s sci-fi b-films. (This was in the 60s btw). The Original Sammy Terry passed away in 2013, while his son has now donned the character for conventions, charity events, and film festivals.

Oh god while I barely knew him myself, his legend certainly continued in Indiana, even Southern Indiana, and I'd heqr stories of the man. I heard from my family his show did continue beyond the 60s when my parents were born in the 70s, so yeah `^ ^ Oooh btw ninja edit here, while the original guy died, his son has continued the role and since 2011 has done often yearly halloween specials on WTTV where he would host a horror movie, tho moved away from the crappy fare his predecessor covered, going for more modernish horror in the form of shows like Amnityville and Night of the Living Dead.

@@OddityArchive Yeah, I'm glad that period died tbh. It's not aged well and comes off as oddly cynical. Not speaking solely of you but lots of people back in the day (e.g. most of the films Nostalgia Critic used to rant about aren't even that bad, I've seen Rollergator so any other film is a Ingmar Bergman masterpiece). As a fan of the channel since 2014, things definitely have matured for the best and talking about what makes you happy is when OA is truly great which you seem to be doing more in this current era.
