IN the 1950s i worked for a farmer , in the shop were two 36 inch adjustable wrenches . We put a ten foot pipe on one to adjust tension on the dozer tracks. Twisted the wrench to the point that if you looked at it hanging on the wall it skinned your knuckles ! It has residded in a deep furrow in a cornfield for sixty plus years !

Congratulations Keith. I was forced into retirement almost exactly 1yr ago due to health. Your videos are a huge part of my week. I've been going back and watching old ones I never got to see. Hopefully I'm still here by the end of July to see what your real life career was. Thanks for the extremely great content!!!

I've retired twice. Once from the US Navy after 20 years service and once as an accounting manager for a mid-sized company. Now I do nothing and I do that very well.

First of all, thanks for your service. I don't have a lot of people in my family that ever served but one of my uncles did his entire career in the army. I worked 7 days a week for 21 years and only missed exactly 1 day due to jury duty. To go from that to zero point was and is crushing. I'm only 57yrs old. Before that 21yrs I worked junking scrap with my dad. Now I'm only able to sit, watch TV and play guitar which I've been playing since I was 7. I want to work¡!!!!!!!!!!!

Keith: My heart felt congratulations on your pending retirement. I was finally forced to retire from a career I loved for 30+ years as a psychiatrist after two tours through the cardiac ICU and experienced an anoxic hit to my brain. (Oxygen starvation to the brain) resulting in my struggling to remember drugs, dosages, and more. It was hard to finally face the reality I couldn't properly serve my patients at 100% anymore. But there is life after career retirement. Given the diversity of your skills, hobbies, and talents, in a year or two, you're going to wonder how you ever had time to go to work! God bless and wishing you all the best, Scott, Vancouver, Washington.

I have been admiring Keith's weight loss lately. Related to that, I spotted this in the Tifton Gazette: "Keith Rucker was named the individual male biggest loser by shedding a sizeable 41 pounds and trimming 11.75 inches from his waistline. Most importantly, however, Rucker reduced his cholesterol from 175 to 146 and lowered his resting heart rate by 21 beats per minute." Congratulations, Keith! May this increase in health serve you well, long term.

You will find your self so busy after you retire it will make you wonder how you ever got anything done when you were working... I am retired and truely do love it I have been retired for over a year now and it has been just a treat to work on those things that I never seemed to find time to do. Enjoy. I do hope to make it up your way from FL one day to maybe get to work on one of you shop projects in the future. Take care and good luck.

Congratulations on your retirement. I retired earlier than expected and never looked back. I took a part time job in my hobby of model railroading until I was able to take a full retirement. Now my shop provides a little extra income for play around funds. I am sorry that I will not be attending the Bash this year. I met you there in 2018 and 2019, I was scheduled to go in 2022 but my flight was canceled at the last minute. I am making preliminary plans to take a road trip next year to attend.

Congratulations on your retirement. I think you have made the right decision and will not regret it in the future. Looking at the pipe wrenches, I was shown the first example, painted grey in my school’s metal shop 63yrs ago. We were told it was a ‘puffin wrench’, rather than a ‘stilson wrench’. We didn’t have a pipe shop so it wasn’t demonstrated. Good luck with the future. Your wife will be pleased to get part of you back and that road trip sounds like an ideal start for you both. Regards.

Enjoy your retirement. Very much enjoy watching a master craftsman at work. I did my fitting and machining apprenticeship about 5 decades ago and was blessed with some of the most patient and talented tradesmen you could ever meet, using machine not dissimilar to those in your workshop. Beyond the apprenticeship we had several 'allied trades' segments including black smithing, copper smithing, welding etc. We were trained to a level where we were certified so we could act as quality controllers - I later worked as a marine engineer on a steam destroyer and a submarine. Think I used every skill at least once, but some only once. Can remember forging a bearing housing then pouring and machining the white metal bearing in the middle of the South China Sea. Look forward to the continued YT posts.

Crescent wrenches were made in Jamestown NY, (known as the "crescent" or "Pearl" city). The plant was on the corner of Foote Ave and Harrison St. The building is now the "Riverside Business Center." As a kid I remember stopping at the stop light there one summer night and watching the men running a drop forge to make the wrenches. The drop forge was so big you could feel the thump in the car every time it hit. The shower of sparks was like watching fireworks. Very impressive to an 8 year old. I'm certain they made 36" Crescent adjustable wrenches, probably for the railroads or military.
