I poured new babbit in a windmill, because it ran out of ole. It had thousandths of up/down for new ole to simply run out. It was a fun project.

I assume you'll be hardening it. At leas the splines would be hardened is my guess.

Hey Keith! I hate design Engineers for: 1. Taper pins; 2. Norma Hoffman nuts and washers; and, 3. Roll pins, in that order. In my 21 year Coast Guard career, I jad more problems with these three abominations than any other thing, including malfunctioning sewage system sensors! Now, the biggest problem with roll pins is that they are NOT made from corrosion resistant steel. Give me Stainless, Please! Norma Hoffman nuts and washers ALWAYS end up shearing off the ONE tab finger holding things together and cause fires, sinkings or both. The ONLY taper pin I ever saw that I approved had the large end threaded for a nut and washer(s), to alliw it to be pulled back by the nut without complication or drama, ( as the Aussies say). Anything else is asking for disaster! OK, so in order to

Keith, study the attributes and characteristics of various inserts, my opinion you generally use the wrong insert. You should be breaking the chips on those cuts. Try a CNMG 432, you will like it. JIM 🎉

Keith I know you're the pro and Im just a nobody in the comments section but brother it really makes me nervous seeing you with long sleeves on the lathe especially reaching over the work piece. I think perhaps I've watched too many Russian and Chinese lathe videos. Anyway, take care we need Keith around as long as possible!

I'm no machinist so please excuse the possibly stupid question: every other machining channel i watch always pulls the cutter out of the workpiece a bit before going back to the start of the cut. You scoot back across the workpiece oftentimes marring the surface lightly. Does this not matter? I would have thought the marks would affect any precise measurements.🤔
@garybrenner6236
@garybrenner6236 14 сағат бұрын
He dose that because he is not very good at "pretending" to be a Machinist, you are already smarter than him!

@garybrenner6236 Gary, why so mean? Even if Keith was as bad as you say, that is rude, dude. Since he is not it's more than rude, it is defamation -you have been nasty long enough, you've been warned. What you are doing is getting close to actionable, please take heed. Your words can easily be used for the Case against you.
