Assuming the perfect beggarly disguise (soot smeared face, rags, yak-wool mats, and an appropriate traditional Tibetan hat) a foreigner and explorer went incognito on a prohibited pilgrimage to the holy city of Lhasa.
Alexandra David-Néel’s journey to Lhasa wasn’t just incredible - it was forbidden by the British government. Spending years dedicating herself to buddhism she finally went out in search of the capital city in 1923. On the other side she found herself on the threshold of nirvana.
