It's too bad your reviews for these games don't get more traction. They're the most detailed and comprehensive looks at these games that I've seen
@PixelPursuit2 жыл бұрын
I do pride myself on going into a lot of detail with my review style videos! Especially when it's a whole series I'm doing. Oddworld is actually potentially the most in depth I've ever gone with anything because I've even more recently spoken about the obscure games and cancelled games and stuff! But I don't really mind too much about the videos, especially when the people that do watch the videos appreciate them 😀

Great review. I was 9 when I played this and thought that all games would always be this good. Looking back now I see what a gem it was.
@PixelPursuit3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I would have played this game at a similar age too, if anything I was probably a little bit younger actually, maybe 6 or 7! I suppose the good thing about games normally not being as good as this though is that you appreciate the gems from the past a lot more when you go back to them.

No problem! I really enjoy going back and re-visiting older games, a lot of them are still impressive and offer something unique, so it's worth replaying them! :)

I always figured Elum was the name of the species AND the creature. Like, when a character names a dog 'Dog.'
@rickybindahoose6193 Жыл бұрын
I always saw it as an anagram for Mule, he's just Oddworld's version of a Mule so yeah that's probs the species name.

It's a perfect game in my opinion. So happy they will finally release an Abe statue.. We only had to wait 24 years!
@PixelPursuit3 жыл бұрын
It's easily one of my favourite games of all time along with Abe's Exoddus. I kinda like to view them as being the same game and just like part 1 and part 2 of the same experience haha! Yeah! Crazy that they never did a figure of any kind isn't it! They probably could have made a ton of money if they had done that before! If they ever sell the figure outside of the CE of Soulstorm, I would be very tempted to get it!

@PixelPursuit5 жыл бұрын
It seems to be a bit forgotten nowadays, even with the remake of Abe's Oddysee on PS4 and the upcoming remake of Abe's Exoddus. Hopefully they'll put more money into marketing when the release of their new game is near. But yeah, the Oddworld series for the most part is incredible and definitely worth looking into. The original two games are some of my favourite games ever!

The scariest thing about this video: That ecstatic expression on the thumbnail! On another note, ever played a game where you everything is exactly the same several times until a particular cutscene is presented differently?
@PixelPursuit5 жыл бұрын
Haha! Wait until you see the angry thumbnail expression... I don't think I've ever played a game like that... Haha, what do you mean?
@RiiViiMedia24245 жыл бұрын
@@PixelPursuit First unimpressed, then happy, then angry? Let me guess, the fourth one is confused? A funny story there. It was a game called *Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles* (the first game based on the 2003 TV series of the same name that was published by Konami for GameCube, PS2, Xbox, Windows and Game Boy Advance). It's a fairly obscure game that's a Beat 'em up. The thing about it is that to get the "special surprise" the game has (that I'm being deliberately vague here) to be beaten by every Turtle. And each story is almost exactly the same. Plus same enemy placement. But oh boy, did that "special surprise" blow my mind when I first saw it as a kid. That song that plays through the credits is still awesome, though. Funny thing about nostalgia: it works best if the game still feels like what you played years ago. That "special surprise" was still great, though.
@PixelPursuit5 жыл бұрын
Nah, that’s it, there’s only three variants haha. I’m familiar with that game, I actually used to play it quite a lot but the sequel was much, much better in my opinion. I never finished the original as far as I can remember because it was pretty hard and didn’t allow you to continue (if I recall it right...). I don’t know what this special surprise is but it sounds interesting haha!
@RiiViiMedia24245 жыл бұрын
@@PixelPursuit I should play the sequel to see what it's like. I did play the third game and it was the first GameCube game I've played that required two discs. The "special surprise" itself is only hinted at a certain point in the game visually, and in the Instruction Booklet.
@PixelPursuit5 жыл бұрын
I never played the third one. I think that was after my TMNT phase! Wow, who would’ve thought that would be a game that needed two discs! It must have been a pretty big game! Hmm, you’ve got me intrigued. I’m going to take a look at the instructions when I’m back home haha!

I never even knew the playstation version ran that much slower! I grew up playing the PC version and even back then, I always felt like there were points where the timing was unecessarily tight, particularly in scrabania with the mines. Since development was on the Psx first I guess it wasn't really meant to be like that, huh? Fantastic video, and I'm definitely gonna be watching the others.✌️
@PixelPursuit3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it feels like the PS1 version is definitely the intended way of experiencing the game. The PC version always felt really strange to me (you might even say odd :D) like it was running way faster than it was supposed to go. It makes it feel smoother but just... Wrong at the same time haha! Thanks so much! I hope you enjoy the other videos! I've even gone as far as to cover the weird Game Boy versions now too! :)

@PixelPursuit5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! It's still one of my favourites even to this day! The remake has the quick save feature so maybe it's possible you're thinking of that? Either that or you're getting it muddled with Exoddus which would be easy to do considering they look very similar!

Great video! I've never heard of this game, and right now i feel i've missing out alot. P.s. I'm not sure about who's Elum, haha.
@PixelPursuit5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! These games are incredible and are essential PS1 classics. If the slightly dated graphics and gameplay elements put you off, the remake is readily available on PS4 (although it's not quite as good as the original in my opinion). Haha, I don't know if anyone is sure who Elum is!

28:04 You can still save yourself at this point by quickly hoisting yourself up and grabbing a grenade to take out the sligs.
@PixelPursuit4 жыл бұрын
It was a while ago that I played this so maybe I'm misremembering, but I don't think there's time to hoist yourself before the Sligs shoot and you can't dangle from this platform either so there's no way to quickly get back up again. I'm positive that there was no way around the predicament when I was playing it, I tried a lot of stuff but nothing worked :(

I'm looking to get NEW N' TASTY for my Switch soon, before Soulstorm comes out. I played it before and liked the upgrade for the most part, but what it lacks in comparison the original is that dank, grungy feel that modern graphics can't seem to recapture. I mean, they can, but game makers don't want to I guess.
@PixelPursuit3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's definitely a good way of recapping the story before you play Soulstorm. I completely agree with you about the original having a much darker atmosphere and I much prefer that to the style of New 'n' Tasty.
