The lyrics kinda remind me of the story of Scarface to an extent. If you don't know what that is, Scarface tells the tale of Tony Montana, a man who wants everything, despite people trying to discourage him from that. He wants the world and the the treasures that lie within, stopping at nothing to get there in his pursuit of power (And with it, supposed "happiness"). Pulling every last string he can to eliminate competition, get to a higher position, and get closer to his goal. Finally, he reaches the spot where the world is pretty much his. He's essentially an overlord, he has everything he started after. The fortunes, the riches, the treasures. He is powerful, and recognized. But it was not enough. He wanted more. He wanted everything. He got greedy. He would shun or kill those who tried to convince him otherwise without any mercy. Eventually, he bit off more than he could chew and things started going downhill. Everyone he had, everything he owned, it all came spiraling downwards like a whirling dervish. Finally, he was back where he began, except much worse off and subsequently, this led to his demise...in the form of a point-blank shotgun blast to the back of the spine. In short, the lyrics reminded me of that story. They portray a man who wanted everything, despite his wife(?) trying to discourage him. He becomes greedy and finally obtaining the riches he sought which he believed led to happiness. But he wanted more. However, everything backfired and everything disappeared, until he was no more and (presumably) met his demise.
