I always found ironically cool how the whole context of the Inventory was the fact that you could play games that were "outlawed" or generally un-available to the public in it, and later on the game itself became so. Like you need a "special" invitation to sneak in the Inventory and play poker with those specific celebrities.

Nice video! Small piece of Poker Night trivia: Had there ever been a Poker Night 3, I know that Mike Stemmle the writer of Poker Night 2 wanted the theme to be Ladies Night with all women characters at the table. I don’t think a 3 was ever seriously discussed though, and shortly after 2 shipped, none of the writers of either game were still at the studio. Another one: the “murder” dialog was in fact meant to be the “end” of the game. I can’t remember how you’d earn it. Maybe by busting everyone out when you have all the items and are the highest rank? I honestly can’t recall. The idea was that a sequel could be a different type of game entirely - maybe a Clue style murder mystery, or a collection of different games you play with an overarching story running through it. There was not a concrete plan, but it seemed fun to end what is ostensibly just a poker game with a dramatic cliffhanger. Instead cooler heads prevailed and that content was never finished or included, and the sequel was the more expected Poker Night 2.

@meikkon_ Жыл бұрын
hey jake! really glad you enjoyed the vid, it wouldn't have been the same without the insights you provided. very interesting to hear that there were actual plans to include a murder mystery element, would certainly be an unexpected turn of events. thanks a bunch for stopping by!

Wow, I didn't know Winslow was from Monkey Island. I had just assumed he was an original character made up for the Poker Night at the Inventory game. This video was very imformative, filling in gaps in my knowledge that were just there for years that, despite my sinking hours into playing this game, never occurred to me to inquire about. I also learned from this game not just how to play Texas Holdem but also how to play Omaha Holdem which I very much prefer over Texas since you get to see higher hands more often.

the poker night series hold a special place in my heart (mostly cause i had a bad pc at the time and heavy and glados were in the game) as i was in middle school at the time, i've sink so many hours in both games even after i got the tf2 items. cause the interaction was honestly my favorite part in general, 6 years later i remembered the games and wanted to play it again out of nostalgia. and i still love the games and have grown to love the ost more then before. thank you for the video! it was interesting to listen to!

I hold a LOT of nostalgia for poker night (though more so the sequel then the original). I really do think it's a shame that we only ever got the two, though I can understand it. Still, I could take as many character packs of new tables as they'd be willing to sell me, even for characters I don't otherwise really care about. I don't think I ever would have gotten all that interested in Sam and Max or Venture Brothers without poker night, for sure.

I initially bought Poker Night and its sequel years ago specifically for the TF2 items, but as I was playing through them, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the banter between the characters. They definitely make a fun and unique experience where you will learn about various franchises while also learning more about some characters you enjoy. Although I rarely think about launching Poker Night or the sequel nowadays, I still recommend playing it if you have a chance to.

I attended a Poker Night panel as PAX East 2011. Jory Prum took several questions from the audience. I personally asked him about some of Strong Bad's dialogue, and i remember a few of us being shocked to learn that TTG had almost no input on his dialogue. Jory personally was unfamiliar with the character, so TTG let the Brothers Chaps pretty much write all of his lines for the game. (I had personally asked why Strong Bad never once made a reference to "checking his email", but with out a Chapman in the room, we'll never know.) It was a great panel, and i wish we'd been allowed to record it for posterity's sake.

I still adore this game and its sequel. It's my go to game for video poker that's only sweetened by the character interaction. I can only dream of reliving seeing this game come out back in 2010, seeing Strong Bad interacting with Max and Heavy and that "bleeped up bleep" line flooring me the first time I heard it. A shame a new Poker Night will never happen, but I at least have these two games to cherish like the Telltale fan I've been for the last 15 years.

You know, if I hadn't played this game, I'd probably never have even heard of Sam & Max, or Homestar Runner. I was a TF2 fan, and didn't even play for the items, I played it just because Heavy was in it, and I wanted to see more of him. I found myself really intrigued by Max and Strong Bad's dialogues, and did some poking around to see what their series had to offer. That was around mid-2014, if my Tumblr is anything to go by. Almost nine years later, and I can't really imagine my life without either of those two franchises being in it. I still adore TF2 to this day, and I owe Heavy a lot for introducing me to Max and Strong Bad. I never really caught on with Penny Arcade, but I adore the Homestar Runner and Sam & Max IPs so damn much, and Poker Night means a surprising amount to me because of it. This documentary was absolutely fascinating. Thank you so much for giving me some insight into a game I still play pretty frequently, just because it's an A+ time waster.

the family sharing world is full of scams now sadly, given the keys have seriously dried up as of late. but it's the only other way to get a hold of the game legally - a very weird situation for a game to be in!

Dude, the KZbin Algorithm sucks you aught to have way more exposure. Very well put together, good editing, thorough research and no real way to promote yourself. I say it sucks but ifound the video so maybe ittl take off at some point

This is a wonderfully put-together video, both informative and entertaining in the best tradition of KZbin content, but I have to say the part that really got to me was when the island music cover of "Redial" from the Bomberman Hero soundtrack started playing. Thanks for sharing this. Your taste in background music is truly superb.

I love how they were supposedly all patted-down before entry, yet they all still pull out their guns (including heavy's entire fucking minigun) at tycho

You know with how chaotic Max could play, his voice line "I didn't even look at my cards" whenever he wins, might be legit

Heavy’s more sombre and serious side is explored a lot more in the TF2 comics, which gives us a look at Heavy’s home and family back in Russia

not gonna beat around the bush here - i will eventually, no doubt about it. it's more just a case of when it'll be done, since there's a lot of ground to cover + i've got a lot of other stuff in the works. originally, i was going to try and cover both games in one video, but it was too much in one go! when i get properly into making the next doc, i'll make a post and let y'all know ;)

My dream staff for a 3rd game is Murdoch from the Gorillaz, handsome Jack, Tucker from RvB, and originally I'd say, Rick Sanchez, but idk how profitable he'll be after they replace his voice actor 😅.

I remember when Poker Night 2 came out. The perfect sequel. I simply adored how all the characters played off each other. It saddens me so much that we may never see what a 3rd installment of this series would look like.
