This story reminded me of not just what got me into the Asgardian's in general, though more specifically Thor, as well as what irked me with where writers were taking him of late, but also how fun this story run has been. He was so outshined by Angela and he was beaten down, etc, but this was an amazing run for Thor. Cates came right of the gate with the series with him being the herald of the big G, but all the way to being a true All-Father, and basically Odin 2.0. Toss in that Odin will be in his ear and the freedom for the writers to play with the powers of Thor's new Angel-infused hammer, which I guess he will call Odin, instead of Mjolnir. Re-reading this makes that last sentence sound..just wrong lol. Anyway, Angela was depicted very well here. Overall this run stuck the landing and a nice launch point for where they go next.

See I read it as the Odin Force now resides in the hammer, which will power it but also put a limiter on the Odin force for Thor so it can’t be used in every fight. Basically from now on if Thor wants the full power of the Odin Force he’ll need to either break the hammer or make it as he said, just a hammer.

The line Odin told Thor gives me goosebumps “A King cannot rule from his knees boy”. To me that line has as much significance to me as “Heavy is the head that wears the crown”. I don’t remember where I initially heard that line but it’s apart of the reason why most of my social media handles are some variation of CrimsonKing, and recently it’s become CrimsonKingLotus. Anyway that name has a lot more significance to me. I thought about it for a long time. Crimson is a shade of red relating to my illness Sickle Cell, King has to do with the way I view myself, and Lotus because of the flowers significance.

Here's the thing with Thor over the decades...during the time of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's run back in the 60's and 70's, the Odinsleep only needed 24hrs to replenish the Odinpower. Back then, Odin was considered one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel universe. He was able to destroy planets in one burst of power. He was able to transport billions of people to other planets or dimensions. Thor himself use to have powers that was so amazing that he was truly Marvel's Superman..and more! As years went by, the writers that came on after Stan starts reducing his powers. Odin's powers. Just about anyone that was Asgardian wasn't even "Godly" anymore. As that was happening, the Hulk became not just stronger, but practically a GOD. His healing factor is totally insane. His strength reaches a level that is beyond anything Marvel has had for him. The writers start adding durability and other new ideas to make the Hulk more then just a strong brute that was mutated by radiation. Reed Richards and Sue gives birth to 2 children. The boy Franklin is basically a god that has the potential to be more powerful than anything in our galaxy...maybe the universe! Their daughter is soooooo smart, she can probably devised, invent, create something that will make her more powerful then even Franklin! So what I'm getting at is that Marvel disrespect of Thor over the decades know no bounds. Presently, Marvel and it's current writer on Thor has made him probably more powerful then he ever was, maybe more than Rune King Thor? We'll see about that though. Every time Thor gets an upgrade in his powers (he should because when is he supposed to mature into the being that Odin and Gaea/Phoenix gave birth to??), he loses it after the story is over. I'm waiting and hoping Thor finally gets to keep his powers and mature the way he should be!

Agreed it would be sick if we find out Thor's original mother was the phoenix but like Dionysus he needed a surrogate hence why Odin brought him to Gaea but she made Odin promise to use a fostermother because if word got out she birthed Thor if would summon Atum the demigorge from the suns core to devour Thor. It would be sick if eventually we can see Thor use the abilities of his three moms as well as his dad; the poenixforce, the Odin-force, the power of the runes, the power of Gaea and maybe even the power cosmic. The story could follow him becoming king and deciding to safeguard Asgard from the celestials now that his dad is not there to excuse his earthly transgretions thor will have broken the treaty between the skyfathers and the celestials, this could prompt Thor to marry Thena and ally himself with the Eternals. He could decide to lay waste to Maklu-4 to use the spirits of the Makluans to create hammers for his new Thorcorps, he could brandish the Odinsword and leave Mjolnir with Jane foster, what if in sacrificing love for his marriage to thena it leads him to a zeus-like or robert-like path of adultery and bastards which prompt multiple factions in Asgard to make a play for the throne. As everyone thinks Thor is the Mad king as he speaks to voices in his hall no one can see but him, but in reality he is speaking to the embodiment of the Odin-force, the phoenix force, the spirit of Gaea, the power-cosmic, the spirit of Mimir, and the spirit of Magus encases by the mind stone set in Thor's eye which he aquired as a deterrent against the Mangog.

I understand why they needed to nerf a lot of these characters to this point. Much more interesting to write a story if we don't always have to bring up the cosmic level beings that can end an event in a second. Thank god that's the case or in EVERY story, event or situation to occur, people will always bring up this and that about OP heroes just dealing with the issue and it takes away from the suspense. Back then, the stories were always one dimensional up until we had stories like Infinity Gauntlet and Secret Wars. So the stories back then were simple, beat up a bad guy and get the lady. Sometimes the hero has internal conflicts but in the end it was just godzilla movies with comic book superheroes and in the end, those didn't sell as well as a well written story. So thank god we don't have superman pulling chains of planets across the galaxy with ease or odin destroying planets with a finger. We wouldn't have the Ragnarok event. We wouldn't have the death of superman. We wouldn't have all these moments that would last 5 panels of the hero entering and exiting the scene with the villain standing and dropping in a single moment.

@@HeroFall Yeah...but that would just remove a good chunk of a character's development and this entire arc works great for Thor because throughout the many stories now in Marvel keep hyping Thor to be the next King of Asgard and having the Odin Force. I mean if they just return everything to status quo where Thor went through so much crap it would just render everything worthless.

Many people bring up Odin facing Galactus. But Odin wasn't in his prime in that fight, even Classic Odin isn't prime Odin. Its probably when Thor was going around with Jarnborn, that's when Odin was in his prime. His body would have been younger and wiser. His body would be physically stronger and be able to withstand more Odinforce. He wouldn't fall into the all sleep easily, but I wouldn't go back to the prehistoric Avengers.

Zeus has beaten Galactus too. From what I have gathered is that Odin and Zeus are head of the skyfather table, the Barzinis if you will. And they're are also superior to the other skyfathers, as we saw when the Egyptian underworld god Seth took the powers of all the Egyptian deities and he still got stalemated by Odin.

I think he will be able to channel aspects of the Odin force more effectively with his new Odin hammer. Maybe they get rid of the Odin sleep with it. It also lets him stay a warrior with it while any other weapon would signify a kings weapon.

Odin in the Hammer would be a game changer as the hammer is sentient based on how its depicted. In a greater way Oden and Thor can now fight as one not just one waiting for the other to die for succession to take place. If father can still guide son that would be cool in their dynamic.

Odin in the hammer is a kool change. But he didn't change up any of the story telling. It's the same plot used all the time. Biggest most powerful bad guy ever appears. Good guy defeated. Plot stuff good guy becomes a god. Good guy wins. Just recently that was the Venom, ironman, the last thor story with galactus was the exact same for fksake. But I again I do like the changes. Just wish it was told more originally.

Now that Thor has the Odin force, I was hoping to see Thor use it as Odin did(Odin has so many feats with the Odin force). So far, Thor hasn't even scratched the surface of the power he wields. It's pure wishful thinking at this point, but it would have been cool to see Thor learn to master the Odin force.

Here’s the thing that’s been bothering me since Simonson change everything about the “worthy” loophole. When Odin realized this, he said it was an enchantment that was placed there when Thor was being taught humility. He didn’t expect anyone else to pick up the hammer except Thor. If Odin made the enchantment for Thor only, no matter the wording, he made it for Thor. So how can a wrong phrase change the enchantment that Odin meant for Thor only? Does that mean each word is an actual enchantment?? So Odin sees that and fix it! No, he didn’t. I know it’s comics, but it’s the dumbest loophole for a weapon that is supposed to be Asgard’s greatest. If the USA had a security loophole that someone can get the codes to their nuclear arsenal, you correct it immediately! From Simonson to the current writers, they have left this loophole on Mjolnir to basically say that Odin and Thor, and the powers-that-be of Asgard, that they’re complete MORONS. Donny Cates can fix this now. That should be Thor’s priority from here on. We’ll see if this happens or leave it status quo by putting the same enchantment on it and continue the asgardians the imbeciles of the universe.

Loved the last volume and the flashback of Odin training Thor telling him to „ keep your eyes open boy“( for context thor is training with Mjolnir throwing it and calling it back to him, but Mjolnir rushes so fast at Thor that he closes his eyes out of intimidation, „ forcing“ Odin to step in and catch the hammer for him) love it.

As for the Odin force being less powerful than the power cosmic , it depends on which character we are talking about. Odin and even Thor without the Odin force would regularly beat heralds of galactus with the power cosmic. Odin slapped around silver surfer like nothing and battled against galactus himself. I think as a totality the power cosmic is greater and has potentially greater power then the Odin force as a whole. But when we speak about how much power these characters are given by the power cosmic usually Odin beats them all unless we are talking about galactus level beings and celestial because they carry an almost unlimited amount of the power cosmic unlike a herald level character who only has a portion of galactus power. So Thor would be more powerful with the Odin force as he is the all father but if he has both Odin force and the power cosmic like in herald of this dear, then he becomes super OP AND by the end he even strips away galactus power after he was supercharged.. this gave Thor an ungodly amount of power only seen before by TUNE KING THOR. He becomes far more than a celestial or a cosmic being and more on the level of abstract being like eternity.

Totally agree. Galactus’s Heralds’ power cosmic levels are nowhere near the Odinforce in power level. Spiderman beat Firelord fair and square. Beta Ray Bill beat Stardust. Terax has been beaten by many heroes. But if its Galactus at his peak vs Odin at his peak - then we have seen time and again that the power cosmic is superior - except for the very first matchup which we are led to believe wasnt canon.

@@davehill5764 I disagree with your last point. In MUA, Odinforce Dr.Doom was the final boss while Galactus was the sub-boss. Also there's a comicbook story where Dr.Doom takes the power of Galactus, the cosmic cube and the cosmic control rod, and even for a short time Odin still manages to fight him. Like Rob most people have utmost respect for Galactus or Dormammu(who got intimitated by a blind Loki BTW) but not for the Asgardians for some reason

And not only that but when they fought, Odin had skipped his Odinsleep to oversee the matter with Silver Surfer and Galactus. The problem w/Marvel, making everyone or thing superpower, then the stories get RIDICULOUS!! They have to move the goalpost. That's why DC have a problem doing Supes stories. Stan/Jack always made sure that things didn't get out of hand w/this. That's why Marvel was SO successful. Not EVERYONE has to be Superman.

Good story... And just cuz you ever so briefly mentioned Thor not being worthy, I must take that as my chance to sound like a broken record when it comes to Thor comics ("canon" or no, doesn't matter), but there's no better "Thor is no longer worthy..." moment in his history than when he becomes unworthy during that 2nd Half of the Dan Jurgens run..rub... What goes on, what he does, all up until that point, and then, by God, WHAT HE DOES IN THAT MOMENT....smh... I can still ever so slightly feel it as when it shook me to my core no, what, 25 years ago or so, when I read it for the 1st time??? Truly AMAZING Thor story and overall run... wish they would actually make it a FULL PHASE in the MCU!

maybe.. though what I think is happening, is the Angels fixed the hammer with pieces of Heaven. Maybe what is being allowed here, is the hammer can become a conduit for communication with lost loved ones. A way for the wielder to commune with Odin, without having to resurrect him, or break into valhalla, or use other more dangerous means.

At the end of Aarons run where Thor's granddaughters were going through the library they found a book that chronicles all the sagas that Cates is now writting. Shadow of thunder, god of hammers etc. It's a very nice nod to what came before

Can someone please tell me what is the name of the golden sword Thor broke on the God Tempest. I'm not sure why everyone just ignores it. The comic didn't even mention it, and you can see it clearly break on the God Tempest. Its visible right at the start of this video. Then he takes Sifs sword, after his breaks. I really hope someone knows. Its driving me crazy.

Why do people keep overlooking Old King Phoenix Thor? He had full odin force. Thousands of years of more experience and the phoenix power. He fought for a whole 100 years straight nonstop. He is easily the most powerful Thor really. Not just a soon as he powers up its over and back to sleep type deal

It’s hard to keep track of “ultimate” Thor’s. Marvel keeps upping the ante. Same with hulk, sentry, etc. Marvel gets to the point where they just over power the characters so much that they have to continuously retcon them. It’s too much.

This is just a sad reflection of society today, through the writers. We once held at a high level, honor and "worth". Hence Thor needing to be worthy of the hammer MJOLNIR. Now, everyone thinks its ok to just be whi they are, no matter how unworthy or broken, and they deserve to wield the hammer because its ok. Its a sad day

There are things that sound good in theory but Im not sure how it lines up with the rest of the tie ins along with Jason Aarons. The mother storm wasnt tied to the hammer because Odin pulled a genie in a bottle trick but without the Spell ultimately tie-ing "Her" to the actual hammer. It was just a conefinment spell it seems but then shifts to a tethered confinement? But, what is this Odin thought of being confined in the hammer now? I hope it isnt but who knows. And PLus, does this negates Thor's vision of Thanos holding his hammer now? I dont know man. I liked the "A king cant rule from his knees" and the artwork is amazing but I dont like the overall arc with a female hammer.
